  • Have you ridden the Bigginberg? Defo need a 52 tooth rear to conquer that beast.

  • I’ve never ridden the biggenberg with more than a 34 on the back

  • tbh Biggin Hill should be flattened

  • and not because its a hill

  • Andy “5 speed blocks” P.

  • I’ve recently put eTap Force AXS on the good bike, but wanted to keep my Power2max PM. I knew it would be sub optimal and I’m having issues with poor front shifting and chain drops. I’m not giving up quite yet and will continue to try to adjust the front mech to get it working, but it’s got me thinking about throwing money at the problem.

If I do decide that’s the way to go, can I check I’ll have no issues putting a SRAM Red/Force quark 2x chainset on? The frame is BSA 68 threaded. Also, I think I read that the new quark power meter chainsets have non replaceable rings? Is that the case for all versions or just Red?

The next piece of the puzzle is whether I could make use of my existing Power2max (on a Rotor Aldhu 24 chainset) on my gravel bike that’s running 1x GRX 800. Can I put a 1x ring on that 5 arm Power2max spider and if so will chainline be ok?

Please excuse my ignorance in these matters and any advice gratefully received

  • 1st step, add a chain catcher if you haven't already. Which Force AXS is it? The D1 is particularly droppy, it's shameful. Are you using the correct wedge behind the derailleur etc? Have you used the red plastic tool to help align?

Those, and switching to a stiffer Red chainset fixed the issue for me.

  • It’s a D2 mech. Yes to all except the chain catcher, however it throws the chain from small to big shifts. I did wonder if my running 50/34 with a 16t gap might be part of the problem, but I’ve read mixed reports. Some say it’s not an issue, some say it is.
To be fair it took a while to dial in my old Red etap 11 speed FD at the beginning and then it was trouble free for years, so I’m not giving up yet. Just exploring options and if an easy fix means I can also have a PM on the winter/gravel bike then that’s a bonus.

  • You can have a Quarq spider compatible with 2x force chainrings. Can't say if the problem is your chainrings. If there's issues I normally line it up with the marks, height as close as possible and very close with limit bolts. Then small adjustment if needed and install the right wedge so it doesn't move.

  • Forget both and focus on 11.

    Shimano di2.

    The Truth.
    The Light.

Let not the temptations of extra T tempt you away from the light. Nor let the hollow promises of the harlot buyers tempt you away from the truth.

Let us never forget the high priest's words, lest your soul be damned to an enternity of clunky shifts...

  • Praise be 🙏

  • Can anyone explain what's going on here?

A 9200 crank with 11 speed chainrings... I was under the impression that 9200 was 12 speed? Or were early iterations offered as 11 speed?

Doesnt that 9200 have a different chainline to the 9100/9000? Or is that only with 12 speed chainrings fittes...

  • Warranty replacement “crank gate” 11spd cranksets were 12spd gen with 11spd rings.

  • As soon as the warranty thing started, eBay got flooded with these mint condition cranksets from the warranty scheme.

People were digging out knackered old chainsets that they hoped could get replaced under warranty and then make more money then they would have done selling the original one.

  • 9200 crankset works fine with 9100 gears for me.

  • Don't hate the player, etc...

  • Haha, I had a go myself but Winnie at SE20 Cycles was too honest and wouldn't send my old Ultegra crank off for a new one!

  • Good to know 👍🏻
