  • I've never had much luck with those but I don't have any metalworking skills so your experience will be a bit different!

I'd be tempted to try a bit of extra pipe length on the end of the header to increase flow rate, wrap that baffle in some wadding and fix it inside the new 'silencer' and see what happens. Reduced internal diameter of the baffle would increase flow rate further, I think.

  • underserved

This is why a lot of us ended up with Dominator on our bikes. I think it’s too loud out the box, and too difficult to get a balance right (loud not obnoxious) with baffles.

I went through a number of amazon/aliex baffles to increase back pressure on the DR350, ended up with longest possible, minimum airflow holes, extra wadding inside.

Sound level reduced somewhat and pressure improved a bit.

The original Suzuki DR exhaust is a marvel of engineering. Super heavy with a maze of channels to reduce noise and increase pressure.

People open them and remove half the channeling to increase flow and lose some weight.

The key seems to be making it light, small, and not like a 19yo’s “my first lawnmower”.

  • HARD agree. we sell a lot of pro race silencers, coz they're cheap, but they sound horrible, wayyyy too loud. G&G are trying to figure out a way to replicate a flat track one-off silencer they made for us, but in a lower cost and street-friendly version. should go straight on OEM or most replacement headers [for the RnineT]. It's going to be stubby though so i don't think I'll run it on my bike.

sorry for derailling the thread a bit MV!

No problem. I'm just glad I'm not getting told I'm doing a motorbike puppy slaying!

  • In @M_V ‘s case I think it’ll be a case of finding a small long end can that is as long as bearable, then fabricating the up and over header/link pipe.

There are lots of bolt-on options that way once link pipe diameter has been set/swaged.

  • nah i'm fully into it

  • puppy slaying

If you do a search for all the pre-65 trials / twinshocks you’ll have more than enough inspiration on the precedent.

I mean, you could even just look at a VanVan or a RE Trials Rep…

  • a mate has a 60s triumph set up like this, which I always enjoy

  • This is about where I'd like to be, not full on pre65 trials, just a rad sled for ripping around on.

I'll need to look at tyres at some point. I think I have a fair bit of room under the front guard to fit a knobbly in.

  • This looks like a hoot!

  • If you’re running 18/21 then buy Pirelli MT43 … they’re trials type pattern in a very hard compound. I found them awful on the 60kg ST300 and was told “what did you expect?”

Apparently they’re weapon of choice on classics and heavies. Would be ideal on the DR at 160kg.

  • My brother has a Matchless G85 desert sled somewhere. It was originally fitted with an Amal GP carb but was a pig to start so he put a concentric on it

  • First thing I did was change the carb. Would have liked to have put a new Amal on it or refurbed the one that was on it but it needed so many parts and the new ones are pretty pricey so I just whacked a Mikuni on it, So long as it's not been ages since I ran it it'll start first kick now.
