  • Anyone here with old black tattoos had an issue with an MRI scan? Apparently they can contain iron oxide causing them to heat up and I got more than my fair share of shite in the 1990's.

  • Dunno how old you mean, but I have two black tattoos and had an MRI scan last week with no ill effect. I also noted my tats in pre-admission notes and they never followed up. I could have had massive old ink under my clothes and they weren't concerned.

  • Ok, that’s good to know, thanks. Most of mine are black ink 1995-2000 so I’m sure ink standards have improved since.
I’d get the lot covered if I could be arsed but I only become conscious of them when I take my kid swimming. Me and half the other dads with faded questionable body art.
MRI is tomorrow so I’ll feedback, tbh I’m more worried about all the angle grinding sparks I’ve had removed from my eyes in A&E.
