I put together a single-speed.
I've been commuting on the heavy 'dad' bike for many years and it's been a long time since I've had something fun to just hop onto when not delivering a sprog somewhere.
I snapped last summer when I saw two 3Renshos within a week and I wondered why I didn't have anything fun to commute on. Considered something cheap but in the end ordered a Panasonic as I've always been a fan of the team colours - and the JPY was crashing.

Terrific bike. Indeed looks like a good option to pick from the lot to start the day commuting βπ»

Love a "lived in" bike. Good on you for keeping it rolling all these years!

Cheers buddy, aiming on revisiting the Japan Alps after retirement, back on those gorgeous mountain roads.

Fantastic. Are ypu on the sputhern hemisphere or did you build it just in time for fall?

Up north (of France).
It was supposed to arrive around April/May - ready to cruise around all summer on - but production delays unfortunately mean that didn't quite happen.
It might end up with mudguards.. not sure yet.

trying to source a set of mini vs to pair up with road gevenalle levers. tyres are 44c and i don't mind the cable coming close. any recommendations or are they all the same clearance wise?
-
• #132660
You'll want the 90mm ones like Trp cx9s or tektro rx6s, they work with road levers nicely, they'll also give a bit more clearance (5mm worth I guess).

what a beauty!

Damn that's really nice! Did you buy it directly from Panasonic?
-
• #132664
Spot on. I've been looking at the Panasonic website in case I ever have money to burn on a hot new NJS frameset.
-
• #132665
thanks! the rx6 seem reasonably priced too.
on another note, iβd need to upgrade the cassette and mech to match the 10-speed (road) gevenalle. iβve been happy with the lightweight sram pg70 11-36 on my other bike. internet says 9-speed long cage xt shadow mechs can work a larger 10-speed cassette. is this foolish or should i retreat to 11-32 road cassette that the equivalent 10-speed road mech (105) can handle?

They're not bad for the money, bin the stock pads though, they're fuckin awful.
Are the shifters friction or indexed? -
• #132667
yeah was gonna go with kool stops anyway. i think they have both modes
-
• #132668
I've used 9 speed r/d over a 10 speed cassette with friction shifters, works a treat.
Minimal difference between overall depth of 8,9, and 10 speed cassettes.
Just set the end stops, run friction, use whatever combo of cassette/derailleur you fancy. -

Via Alex's Cycles but yeah the order goes straight to Panasonic to double-check and get to work on.

I think I've checked their site every year for 10 or more years trying to decide what to get & eventually not ordering anything.
The geometries on the OTP framesets are kinda funky for the large sizes so I've never been able to commit to buying one & for some reason I didn't really want to settle on a track frame - not entirely sure why, but maybe 10 years ago they just seemed too expensive.
However since then the price of everything else in the world has gone up but the Panasonic frame prices (particularly with the JPY exchange rate) don't seem have changed at all.

Are the FSA Omega stem bolts M5x18 narrow head?
"It looks like the bolts on that are M5x18 narrow head, however we can not confirm that. If you could measure and let us know the sizes we will help you get a hold of the bolts that will work for that stem."

Get a vernier caliper, it takes 2 seconds to measure.

Need to sort out some pics but I picked up a decent priced cnoc 14 for my youngest birthday. A bit tattier than my eldest's, with knackered grips and a small nick to the saddle nose so I've got a few jobs to do this week. Rear tyre has a serious skid patch, but I figured I'll hold on replacing a tyre until they're riding it and it becomes an issue.

Also done that classic thing of not taking proper pics before.
Plan for the saddle nose is to sharpie or, if I can find, it dylon the white frayed fabric. The super glue it down. I may even have fabric glue which I guess could be better. But I didn't have much luck last time I used it....it is less brittle tho... π€

It's my treasure. Fits like a glove. I go back every now and again to see the guy who built it.
