Death knell for my cycling watching I fear. Even though I have Eurosport, I can't stand the presenters or the commentators to the point of just having to turn it off. Was already gutted about the Vuelta show, and now this. Just praying that Imlach and the rest of the crew appear somewhere (anywhere) else.

I've gone from watching almost every race broadcast to only watching the Tour and maybe snippets of the Giro this year. Huge reduction in pro cycling viewing. Other than this thread though I barely notice it missing. Seems I get more FOMO from being off the bike and broken than missing races nowadays.
Kind of like Twitter - checking it compulsively every day until the space goblin took over and all of a sudden I realise I don't really need it in my life.

I have little choice... some cycling is shown on local TV and I can get the tour on French TV. However, I can't even VPN to get past the stupid geoblockers to get Discovery+ as they base it on card location.

I’m hoping it’ll be like the cricket or F1. Full race on pay for view channel, but then a decent highlights package on some terrestrial channel with the same commentary team 🤞 Share the view that Eurosport commentators are pretty dreadful IMO compared to Gary et al.

Not sure it was necessarily a choice if Warner Bros probably offered a huge sum of money that they couldn’t match. I’m hoping for highlights though

Looks like it's time to brush up on some Welsh and watch it on S4C.

I like watching / listening to the SC4 programmes as a friend , Reinald Ap Gwyned did some of the commentary …. him and his brother Pedraig ( ? ) are both big cyclists …. just a shame they are also musicians ! Great to listen to when they have a kick off argument in Welsh with lots of swearing thrown in …

Peredur...both are awesome people, I believe Perry once rode around stages of the tour while also technically on tour with Faithless

Ned Boulting is having a moan, in the most awkward writing style imaginable. It makes your head hurt. He says viewership was declining. Well Ned, might that have something to do you with your unbearable commentary? Not that Eurosport is any better. I miss the Liggett and Sherwen show from the '80s, before Liggett went dopey. If Eurosport could find anyone good I wouldn't mind paying.

I am struggling to find much wrong in what he wrote. I guess he is also losing a significant part of his income from this.

Ha , they are great … and … both bonkers …. I worked for Rej for awhile , had a few rides with him - with lots of fag stops - and sold him a frame when his BMC got sawn through ! I really like it when they do the Tour - can’t understand any of it but it’s great - sounds very Flandrian

Good to see a return to form from Chris Froome at the Saitama Criterium. He was in the break several times. Also commiserations to Roglic on just getting pipped to the line.

Congrats to Girmay too?
-
• #51866
Absolutely, powered his way forward to take the win from the desperately fading Roglic. Race of the year imo
-
• #51867
It was definitely kind of Pog to stay away so there was a race for the win.
VaVa-Froome-Dawg and Are Sir Lord Cav on the podium too for some of the category awards.

Looks like Pidcock is winning the internal power struggles at Ineos, Steve Cummings confirmed as having left the team.
-
• #51869
Steve was on the outs long before they took Pidcock off the lombardia start list though?

Cummings got netFlixed

There is collateral damage in any power struggle. If Ineos wanted shot of Pidcock, it is within their capabilities to do so. That he has stayed and others are leaving shows which camp won.

Any respect I had for Cummings has gone now, he made his departure announcement on LinkedIn ffs.

This is one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen. The Aikido...
Why is Rog in his Vuelta jersey?! At the last minute Roglic was like "oh I need to sprint"? -

This event is pretty relaxed, think “fan service”.
Winners of big races earlier in the season often wear their leader jerseys. -

Genuinely what platform should he be using?
It’s great the London 3 day is on you tube live … but .. Alex Dowsetts wheels are goping !
Good derny race win though
