50 onions 1o garlic in today. Found some random tiddly spuds as I hoed the bed so stuck them in a raised bed incase they'll give me more free spuds next year.

I’m at our plot tomorrow. More cardboard down. Should have all of the new flower plot covered and starting on mine.
Last 6 black currant bushes to come out. Then it’s on to fencing and a new gate.

One of the guys with two plots is in the process of putting a pond in, ground looks good 3ft down, less clay than expected so maybe I should put a sunken tunnel in…

We’re all waiting for this to start…

I know, and I’m well aware that because I announced it on here I’ve a duty to build it 😅

Got the greenhouse frame in place yesterday. Need a bit more gravel and bricks to hold it steady, but it’s pretty level.

Jealous. Really want a greenhouse/poly tunnel.

Looking v.nice, I got a load of pavers for my base via another plot holder. Still can't get my head around laying them level though, I'm not sure I have the skills tbh.

I think it needs a thread in "current projects"

Glass or polycarbonate?

I need to knock a few beds together to justify it, right now I’d end up with very little growing space once the sunken walkway was in. Think a 4x4m bed would be worth doing but most of mine are around 3x2m.
A big consideration for any future tunnels is not spoiling the view from the seating area. We look out across reservoirs and it’s lovely. Don’t want to fuck that up lol -

Start with one slab in a corner and then work your way around with a spirit level
-
• #5289
As in a stable square of sand/mortar mix then lay that slab flat then gradually grow it?
How likely to end in tears / Basil Fawlty attacking his car level of rage is that?

Views are good for sure but the Sunken Tunnel dreams will give a different kind of fulfillment!
-
• #5291
It’s not difficult, otherwise landscapers wouldn’t be able to do it ;)
Take your time, be methodical and you’ll be fine.
The more time you spend levelling the sand before you start laying the easier it’ll be and less likely to shift in future. -

My green house is on loose bricks. No issues

So joining these two beds together would be the easiest way to get a big enough tunnel for a walipini, and it’d be the correct orientation. We’re going to join the beds together anyway as that path between keeps getting wider and encroaching the beds anyway.
The tunnel would spoil the view though.

This is basically on sharp sand and gravel. A long time ago I used to lay patios with someone who knew what they were doing, it’s more work than I can manage and I’ve probably forgotten most of it.

Glass. I got it all for free so it came with glass, will do that when the kids aren’t about.

Fire for next weekend to burn as much of this as possible.
I’d like there to be a punishment for anyone that feels it appropriate to lay carpet at an allotment. Not cool

Top work clearing all that.
We’re still finding carpet fibres years after thinking we’d cleared it all.
A lot of folks on our site use tarp advertising banners for covering, looks like after a few years they get brittle and crumbly so no better in the long run. -

Thanks (& @Light_EDDed + @Tonts) all v.useful.
I'll probably post again but think,
- Square off edges of 'pit' & lay ground weed cover membrane
- Lay level slabs with sand working from centre outwards (the pit is larger than the 6x6ft greenhouse, will possibly fit 8x8ft or 4x4 slabs iirc)
- Pack around it with the prev removed soil to stop it all collapsing outwards under weight/rain
- Assemble greenhouse
- ?
- Profit.

Foxes keep digging up and playing with my onions, even though they are under netting. Chilli powder going on top tomorrow.
