  • Ha! I suffered through using my King cages + WF Litercage for a bit more so Mads could get as much product as possible out to actual customers. Glad to finally have a pair on my Huls.

I like to think of it as a price for my entire oeuvre but the one that did it (and will be featured in a Path Less Pedalled video soon) is the Fidlock attached duffel bag I made for a Cyber Cycles bike earlier this year.

  • Ooofff yeah, beauty! Well deserved!

  • does this click onto a rack? want

  • So it does. In this case a custom titanium rack with fixings for bolt-on Fidlocks. Not exactly plug and play for any existing rack, but I have some vague ideas for other rack solutions.

  • Tijmen x Hulsroy rack/bag when

  • Looking forward to the Mads & Tij netflix series

  • This is seriously skewing my want:need ratio!

  • More PLP famous! Will you ever speak to us again? <3

  • could do something similar to the way the Restrap rando bags work

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIXChHOGAAU

  • Looks great, which specific Fidlock bits are these / how does it work?
The ones on the Restrap rando are sometimes a bit fiddly (these ones I think), and have unscrewed themselves a couple of times on rides for me, where the bag flew straight off the rack into the road after braking

  • This

the bag flew straight off the rack into the road after braking

Is exactly my experience, plus the actually rack mount is a wide old piece of flexy plastic that looks terrible once the bag is off, especially on a silver/narrower rack/Nitto M18. So it’s either bag on 24/7 (which is….fine?) or always ride with a pizza rack.

@Tijmen the smaller and integrated fidlock looks a trillion times better.

  • You can buy fidlock male parts and fit that onto a wide enough rack (the bag was originally intended to work with those on a Pelago rack). It's not the best bag out there but the only shit part really is that piece of plastic.

Sorry for the derail, obviously buy a Witslinger bag instead ;-)

  • Tbf, I think I have shock, horror! rather gone off front racks. Ever since I got this lovely bag by Gapped (sadly made by WizWo, sorry Tij I will leave your thread alone) I’ve used it everywhere!

  • Leaving for a week of hiking on Saturday, thought it might be a good idea to have my pack done before I leave.

  • RE Fidlock chat, they're similar to Restrap hardware but the countersunk version. Far bigger threads, appears to make a difference. To be honest I see projects like this as a tech showcase more than anything. If you're not exhibiting your bike at a bike show you're better off with a basket and a basket bag atmo. If you don't ask during peak season I'm happy to take on projects like this, but they're fiddly and as such they need to be priced to match.

Much like (probably commercially unviable) framed ultralight backpacks.

  • Since you're the one who made this I can maybe understand that you're not worried about it but I really don't get why people buy white hiking backpacks. Stunning piece and weight btw

  • For me it's functional, seeing where it gets grubby also signals where it sees wear etc. Plus I kind of like the look of a grubby white pack.

    And thanks!

  • I bet the depth of magnets helps loads - the Restrap versions always seemed a tad light in their connection.
It totally makes sense as a tech showcase, honestly just a flex of look-how-much-skill-I-have. In a way that’s advertising that if a customer wanted to they could pay you for it, more than other bag makers who might have to do the R&D first right?

  • I guess? If a bag like this doesn’t get a platform like a show there’s no real point for me to make it. So I’m not marketing the bag, I’m marketing the brand. I enjoy a challenge, but my hourly rate drops off a cliff when a bag takes more than three emails. People love to say I should charge for email writing as well, but I don’t want to charge over half a grand for an 8L rack bag.

  • Keep your voice down, there are plenty of men desperate for the opportunity to pay over half a grand for an 8L rack bag.

  • Checking our email threads from last year Oh, crumbs

  • Have you thought about setting up a Google form or something similar to get an initial idea of what people want?
I started at my job about 6 months ago and one of the first things I did was set up a couple of basic forms for people requesting our services (cycle training, led rides and pop up bike mechanics) for ad hoc events. It massively cut down on the labour that goes into stuff that's already borderline not profitable. I think in part because it makes people think about what they actually want and means they can tell you that immediately, rather that going back and forth to get basic details.
