When ordering from AliX duty is charged on orders >£135 right? So if I do multiple orders >£135 I can avoid it (albeit I'll pay more postage)? And anyone know the Duty rate for shifters etc off the top of their head?
Aliex collects VAT on orders under £135, anything over that you get charged VAT & duty at the customs entry point, typically via the delivery company acting as your import agent. By splitting your purchase into small consignment, you'll avoid duty (~5% for cycle components) and agent fees. You'll have to do your own maths to see if that makes it worth paying multiple shipping charges.

Cheers, actually didn't have to do much maths to realise adding VAT and shipping to the items I was looking at puts them pretty much in the same ballpark as some UK based sellers.

I'm considering some carbon trail rims to build onto existing hubs, inside width 30mm-ish 32h, if anyone is doing an order and we'd save on postage putting it in together give me a shout.

Any 1 1/8 straight carbon disc fork recommendations? The SP cycles one looks alright. Has anyone tried one?

2 months in - what's your verdict?

That working fathers need more time for messing around on their bikes in the woods. There are two or three rounds of EKCX left on the calendar, I am hoping they'll get a day out one one of those. Otherwise the rims are more than capable of ensuring the tubes maintain pressure in the tyres adequately, but beyond this they haven't had a Rad Day Out yet

I'm looking for a winter f+f... should be able to take guards, have dynamo routing and tyres up to 32mm. Any recommendations?

FYI Alix refunded me for the fake XTR pedals I returned.

What!
This is the real shock news this morning.

I’m pretty happy with how it all went. The call to adventure that Aliexpress presents…the thrill of beating the system…the buzz of handling counterfeit goods…quickly followed by the intense low of being duped and losing money…the relief of the refund. Next is the retribution of leaving a scathing review. A true monomythian journey.

My budget £225 power meter cranks from Magene last year are still perfectly fine despite concerns about Alix cranks, but I saw China Cycling did a sponsored visit to their factory and they are fucking huge! And they have power pedals coming soon
-
• #12025
Do you have a link to the crank?
Cheap sus seatposts have been around forever. If you want something cheap and cheerful you'd be better off grabbing something from a regular shop with a warranty, etc. Pretty sure decathlon sell them.
