Having had a few days on the Vig since the front fork change has me interested in experiencing faster road descents. Because of the gearing I'm limited to how fast my legs can spin up in fixed brakeless mode. Days of taking feet out on the downhill are over so I made plans to mount a front v-brake. It's just in time for my 50th birthday next month where it will be spent in Hawaii. I'm sure everyone at ride groups will be shocked to see me riding with brakes. I also plan to make use of a flip flop hub that has been stripped on the fixed side with a freewheel.

Scene'ster hipster to practical commuter conversion almost complete... Front brake installed and 44t chainring arrived in the post
Post edit: cable routing on the front brake is to clear the rack

The Allez getting it done in the rain. Rather than doing the fully geared route, I'm considering a dingle speed setup... Using the rear derailleurs limit screws and barrel adjuster to change gears when stopped. I figure a 2 teeth jump between gears should suffice.

Went about riding to the shop to have the chain taken in once the 44t chainring is mounted... The trick is to have it long enough to tuck the wheel running it fixed with a 19t cog and short enough to keep tension running an 18t freewheel. Sadly the gent who I trust most has taken a few days to do a race... Patience has not been a quality I posses so I guess it's gonna have to whoever can get me in and out the door quickest this weekend. Anywho the mini back from a soggy pedal... Still taking style ques off the interwebz

Got the chain taken in with the new chain ring... Loving the gear ratio for gravel/cycle path riding. Perfect for light to light accelerations and makes track standing a breeze.

Having had a few days with a front brake has me interested in adding some bling with an enve fork... The mash build thread in current projects has sold me on the look/shape. I'm gonna wait till I get back from my trip to make an offer hoping that the seller will be more negotiable with price

Canti enve fork?

I'm guessing the enve fork that is listed is older then the disc brake alternatives... Do you think it's fake? I have not yet reached out to the seller for details as I'm trying to bargain for a cheaper price.. there is also a wound up fork for a little more money but I prefer the smooth head tube transition with the enve.

I would just enjoy this steel fork you just got

That would be the most sensible thing to do. I'm truly enjoying the feel of the nature boy fork along with the security of having a plan b brake. I was just impressed with the v-brake and blinded by the enve badge on the listed fork. I'm just gonna have to live without when switching back to the Caad fork next spring/summer... appreciate your voice of reason

In the spirit of celebrating thanksgiving weekend, I've pulled the njs bike off the wall and dusted it off for a ride. In that time I was able to reflect on things I'm most grateful for: Family/Health and a partner who inspires me to live each day to the fullest

An opportunity came up for me to trade a fabric scoop saddle for a cambium c17 with cash on my end so I didn't hesitate... As Halloween lands on Thursday this year I booked the day off work to meet up with my longest lasting ride group in the city. Some of you might remember the space helmet I picked up a couple years back so I bought a NASA inspired bomber jacket for my costume...

We're going to need a photo of you riding in that costume!
How are you getting on with the Brooks? I got given an old C15 for free and am amazed at how comfortable it is. It's a shame it weighs a tonne and looks worse than the Flite it replaced but you can't argue with your arse. I found I need the nose tilted up a bit for it to be most comfortable. If it's flat I feel like I'm sliding off. (This photo makes it look more extreme than it actually is).

I will definitely get a group pic before embarking on our journey but can't make any promises beyond that... I haven't had much time to dial in the saddle yet as I just did the swap this passed weekend. I imagine that the nose will tip up a bit more if I lower the seatpost to alleviate pressure on my wrists... My son let me borrow an earlier version cambium c17 without the cut out years ago to try out. I remember having to rotate my hips forward to get comfortable when putting pressure on the pedals. The frame I had the initial test rides had a shorter top tube with a 90mm stem. In hindsight I should have tried a longer stem to experience the improvements. Great looking bike.

Appreciate the positive remarks. The ride was quite wet from the get go but tapered off nearing the end. The first stop was at an under bridge skate spot. We were fortunate to get there in between the fire works display. Ended up jumping on the wrong bus taking me south rather then east after the train back. All in all, a night worth remembering. I felt very much humbled climbing hills through the city and equally rewarded hill bombing the other side... Got some running around to do tomorrow. Going to extremes from the small bike to the Allez which has a longer seat tube/top tube with thinner taller wheels.

Was out on the Bomber yesterday and realized the legs would benefit gearing up from the current 47/18. I was quite impressed with the design and finish quality of Affinity chainrings so I picked up a 49t... The bronze finish looks nice against the silver omnoms/rose gold wheelset. I've also asked my son if he could transport some njs export goodies with him on his visit home this Christmas break to save on shipping and import tax.

Thanks Bro... Just found a 24h track hub for sale last night to replace a stripped dt swiss wheel built up with polished hplus son rim... I've got plans to meet up with the seller this Saturday

Just picked up the hub which is brand new contemplating whether it's worth splashing out the cash for double butted spokes or build it on the cheap using straight gauge spokes with a 2 cross pattern... The rim has had a couple of hits but is still round

In lieu of the upcoming seasonal changes, I finally got around to getting my main wet weather grocery/ bank errand lock up bike dusted off. Couldn't help my self from scoring rear derailleur from a shop blow out sale... This should make it speedier going from 1 to 9 speeds.. gonna keep it 1 by to keep things simple
