I noticed one of my USB c cables worked fine. An older USB A to C cable.
3 others didn't.The 'charging pin' needs to be long enough to fully plug in, and as you noted, trimming the cable housing is likely to achieve this.

@Arvy. I’ve had one of those for years s and it doesn’t like some cables. The surround to the port is tight and if the cable end is fat it won’t engage. I had to trim away the plastic on a cable
