That’s quite common. It might not be the tamper which is too small, often the basket is bigger than it says it is. There might be an oversize tamper available for your model. For example, you can get 58.4mm tampers which are a better fit in Gaggia 58mm baskets.

Cheers. I'll check them out. I binned the one that came with the machine ages ago, but the one I replaced it with appears to be a little on the small side.
