Have you considered 2 (or 3) smaller subs and setting them up avoiding room nodes (and corners). With that number you could probably slap one next to each main speaker and one along a side wall.
My subs are all persona non Grata at the moment. One is a glorified coffee table, one in the loft and one in the garage.
thanks for advice folks. I dont think the other half will allow a large diameter, floor-facing sub so am looking at a cheeky 8-10in front facing or (dare I say it) a deal on a second hand sonos amp, which i have the luxury of as I'm driving from a Sonos Amp.
