Such a good bike

Thats really cool, but isnt it also a risky way of carrying such delicate optics? Im always a little nervous about carrying my mirrorless camera in my wald basket up front, although its been good so far.

• #27981
Are they really that delicate though?
Swarovski makes scopes for guns as well and I imagine something like this to be built like a tank. -

Just securing your investment. If you've seen the prices on these scopes. I wouldnβt take any chances.

IIRC @photoben had issues with his DSLR equipment due to vibration from cycling his kit around from job to job. I can't imagine clipping a tree / rock with that on the front fork. Or leaning it up against something and just having it tip over.
That looks like a build for an ideal situation rather than real life. The bike equivalent of perfectly spaced out M&Ms on the floor for a vacuum cleaner infomercial.

I mean it is a show bike after all

• #27985
Can anyone afford to make show bikes any more? I assume they are all customer bikes
-
• #27986
Not customer bikes, but Iβm told they will be for sale.

@topkek Yes, had my Dear Susan built with short trekking suspension forks, and a elastomer mounted rack to avoid all vibrations. Bit overkill tbh, but never had any issues. Too much kit now to fit on that rack (and I live out in Walthamstow now), so have a mini electric cargo bike with front suspension and big fat tires take the buzz.
I worry about that bike in the photos above... all that shock going up and down that VERY expensive lens, with only fat-ish tires to take the bumps. Also all that weight on the forks is going to make steering feel like shit.

This is the bike (freshly built many years ago)

It's funny I remember when people used to advise against getting massive knobbily tyres and over-gearing.
This thread looks more and more like the hybrid section of a 2010 Evans catalogue.

Cool that you archived the Cycle Surgery catalogues as well.

Giant is the best brand.

I will never understand why they specced it with an alu fork though..
(Itβs obviously cost and/or weight related, but still weird)

hmm, I didn't know that.
I mean I'm not actively looking for one anyway, but good to know just in case!
