and freestanding can prob be taller than I was able to do, so my mtbs could have gone on it... goddamn.

Yeah, good point. I think I'm ok for MTB length bikes but depends how long the wall brackets are and how high it could be fitted.

Looks like 335mm from top of wall mount to hook

Assuming the Scott is ~192cm long, I should have 15-20cm to play with with the wall mounted version.
