  • Do the measuring as accurately as you can. Too much weight on hand might be due to saddle too far forward but the measuring is really the starting point.

  • Would move the saddle back, then raise the bars a bit.

  • I mean, presumably you're riding it off-road? That's going to make use of your wrists a lot more.

But eyeball your setup when you're riding - how bent are you wrists and arms? Do they seem to sit at an angle, etc? How might you fix that? Hard to tell without seeing setup. Oh, also do measurements again - stuff can move, tube angles might be different and if you've measured from a non fixed point you might actually not have installed the bars in the same location.

Do your hands feel sore/pressured or is it just wrist pain?

Run fatter tyres at lower pressure

    Buy a Lauf :D

  • I'll give that a go, thanks!

  • Mostly riding off road but have commuted it on it a few times which is on road. I still get the discomfort there as well.
I think the problem is I've never measured any sort of bike fit. My old road bike was ridiculously comfy so I should have measured that and used it as a starting point.

    Buy a Lauf

    Now we're talking

  • I mean, wrist pain should be pretty easy to fix (he says with a sore wrist from crashing in June)

If it's only happening on the bike then mess around until it's not. What would cause wrist pain? Weird angles of wrist, too much weight on wrist, maybe some other stuff but they're less likely.

Are your legs ok? Does your bum feel like it's in the right spot? Are you feeling like you're sliding forward? Can you let go of the bars while riding on the hoods and not immediately have to catch them again (sign you might be too far forward)?

What can you adjust up front? Bar height? Try a spacer under the bars to lift them and note any impact on the pain. Eyeball the bars - are the levers basically in line with the top of the bars or some hideous variation? Are the levers cocked in or straight? Different size? Do you feel like you're riding on the drops more on this bike or something?

Get someone to take photos so you can see what your "normal" position looks like on it and not what you THINK you look like on it.

  • All good suggestions, thanks! I'll start working through those. I was really hoping there would be one very obvious cause that everyone's experienced. Turns out I've actually got to put some effort in.

  • I have 3 bikes

    -Singular Peregrine (gravel drop bars)
    -Singular Osprey (road bike)
    -Genesis CDF (drop bar commuter/tourer)

I am 6ft4 ish with a 33" inside leg. All the bikes currently have 175mm cranks. Never had a fit, just the way it is. New group coming on the singular peregrine. Do I want 175 again or do I want to go shorter (170 / 172.5). I was all set on 170 as I found a clearance groupset but they've sent me 172.5 by accident

Edit - not sure if relevant but it has an Ebb

    Cheers

  • I switch between bikes with 172.5 and 165 cranks and don't notice any difference. You might, but I don't think there's any major impact on riding with longer or shorter cranks. Ultimately it comes down to your preference.
