  • I know which one I'd prefer

  • His bikes are really pretty — and I’m excited to see this project develop — but I just don’t get RS. He comes across less pretentious in that video than his kinda abstract social media narratives (ramblings?) but perhaps I’m not close to the history behind it all. I get Grant/Riv, but find the RS stuff impenetrable.

  • How can you get Grant and not get Sachs?

They are both great, but also require some mick taking.

  • Tbf he said his bikes are special, not him.

  • Likely because Grant is less abstract: one could quite easily describe Riv’s ethos to people who don’t ride. RS on the other hand is more opaque — it feels to me like one needs an initiation ceremony or to be “in the know” to get it! I dunno, perhaps I am uncultured.

  • I don't know. It's like you and he both know he has a grandiose sense of self worth, but you also both know you would like one of his bikes because he is doing something real?

    Atmo.

  • Can't believe he actually said that. Humble guy

  • Was excited to see I had receieved an email from Richard Sachs, only to find it was telling me about the wheels, not that he was ready to build me a frame. The wait goes on.

  • I think it’s more of a time/place thing. he built his name doing fancy custom bikes at a time when that was falling out of fashion and is one of the few to ride out the storm to the point that his ethos (fancy, expensive custom bikes) have begun to carve out a wider niche again. I think that’s where his defiant (and holier than thou) tone comes from.

    He is also just weird.

  • Any news from Connecticut?

  • Is the torch being warmed up??

  • The opening post is exactly 1 year and 1 day ago. That's a long time to keep a deposit ATMO

  • How dare you ask! ATHO

“ How long is the wait?
You mean the wait discussed on forum threads and in unauthorized articles on
    the internet, or the truth?”….

“ Otherwise, what people know, or talk or write about regarding my work – that’s their energy not mine.”

  • Still no news from across the pond.

TBH I'm skint at the moment, so no rush from me.

  • Just a (morbid) thought ….
If RS expired what would happen to everyone’s deposits..? I suppose Pegoretti had a team of people around him to fulfill orders but an RS not built by RS wouldn’t be an RS..

  • Hah! 366 days, that's minor. I waited about 13 months for a Pegoretti which got delivered in early 2012. No deposit to worry about though.

  • In that case pray to God he's incorporated and the company is still solvent. Getting my Mercian and Eddie Mcgrath back fromm the workshop ws stressful and they are only about 8 miles from where I live.
That aside if he did go to join the choir invisible his bikes may well jump in value as he is a bit of a lone wolf(?)
TBH I've been reading a bit too much about custom and self builds today. It just puts me in an annoyiing N+1 mood

  • Minor update.

I reached out to Mr Sachs today, to make sure all was well.

He replied imediately. All is good. He has been delayed by some teaching commitments, but is looking forward to starting on my build.

I am all good with that, as I don't have any money.

  • Have you notified him of our March, 16th deadline?

  • That metallic violet is awesome

  • the whole UK cycling industry will collapse after March 16th, without the buyer encouraging and enabling of lfgss how will bike shops and rapha survive?

most of us only build new bikes to justify a current projects thread and then a classifieds sales thread

  • So much this.

I may never need another new bike, and can maybe get rid of my stash of cardboard boxes, as I'll have nobody to sell stuff to.
