I find it vaguely unsettling when someone uses Postman Pat's full name.

Who was talking mini rc planes , specially a 4 gyro mustang. Think I am getting one for my bday and be good to get some tips so I do not destroy on day one :)

I have the Top RC 450mm P-51 RTF? Flew it last week in fact. Hard to destroy TBF. They are pretty resilient little fukers. Need a field with some grass cushioning. No obstacles. Put it in full gyro assist to start and do some simple turns at half throttle. The rudders are pretty pathetic so use the throttle / aileron / elevators for most manoeuvres. When you get bored of that take it to half gyro assist and try some rolls / loops at full throttle with the trick switch. You will need height otherwise you will drive it into the ground. Full gyro off is near impossible at that scale. I only use to nose dive and recover with gyro assist. Good to get a spare prop as even tho they pop off you can shear a blade off on said stack. Also a spare battery will extent your run time.

Thanks a lot for follow up. That is exactly the one I am getting today for my birthday :) spent my youth racing rc cars , so hopefully I can get on ok with flying this thing.

Yeah. I think the 450mm fly at better scale imo.
That said I have a 400mm F4U which uses the same gearbox and motor. Def more poke and acrobatic capability, but maybe less easy on the eye scale wise. Swings and roundabouts. Enjoy

Thanks fella . Have done a bit for reading and actually wondering whether I swap the top rc plane for the F4u model as it seems to get the better reviews , and the shop we bought from sell both . What would you be buying for max fun from a flying pov :)

Difficult really. More personal pref I think. I also have a 400mm Me109 which is prob my fav in terms of design, but it just doesn't fly as well as the F4U or the P-51. I have not flown P-47 / Zero / Spit / FW190

Is there a forum approved cheap and cheerful RC kit?
Hucker jr xmas present. 7yo, obsessed with mechanisms and machines. Not fussed if the build is too tricky for him, but want something thatโll survive his driving (or at least be repairable).

Budget?
Maybe a lunchbox?

Yeah a lot of the Tamiya classics have replacement parts on the bay. Where as modern integrated might not be so easily fixed. Also a 7 year old will prolly prefer standard running gear as opposed to liPo etc which gets spenny and easy to bin. But then u have the option to upgrade as they grow.
Like Pat Clifton dropped some acid and lit Jess a new catnip WIP.
