  • Not seen Perfect Days, alas

  • Dog with a person's head, yeah. Pretty hilarious.

  • That's it!

  • Cat on a hot tin roof is on iPlayer and worth a watch if it passed you by

  • Wonderland is a great film as well as pig

  • It is a great movie, funny and scary but effects do date it.

  • True. Great movie even if you hate subtitles.

  • The cats got me.

    Whole film was prophetic IMO

  • I didn't expect Deadpool and Wolverine to be great, but I was surprised to find it so shit that I stopped watching halfway through with no intention of resuming. The first two films were smart, but that is some lazy-ass shit.

  • When everyone is watching Gladiator II next month, just keep in the back of your mind what the story could have been.

One concept that reached a fairly advanced stage of development was called Christ Killer, scripted by Nick Cave, in which Maximus is resurrected from purgatory and sent back to Earth to kill Jesus. He then gets stuck into the Crusades, the second world war and Vietnam before finding employment at the Pentagon. Despite Crowe’s enthusiasm, the idea was eventually scrapped by the studio.

    Cowards

  • Greedy People on Amazon is worth a watch

  • Just went to see The Wild Robot with my kid. Maybe I'm not dead inside after all, or maybe it's the sleep deprivation/hangover but it got me a bit choked up in places, very pretty art direction too.

Thought the U rating was possibly a bit soft. There's some extended scenes of fairly perilous action, some sensitive kids might find it a bit much. Definitely up there with Wall-e and Up in the family film genre for me.

  • Alien: Romulus - I quite enjoyed it. It definitely has the feel of the first two with some really tense bits. A little bit of fan service but not so much that it's distracting. It did drag on a little bit though, it could have been tightened up.

  • Joker: Folie a Deux - not a patch on the first one but wasn't bored

  • I watched The Babadook at the weekend (it's streaming on Netflix).

Straight in to "instant classic" territory for me, it's just horror done really well.

  • Been meaning to watch this for ages, will check it out.

Speaking of netflix, watched Woman of the Hour this week. A very unpleasant film in many ways but some great performances, the standout being Daniel Zovatto who plays Rodney Alcala imo. Some really tense scenes and great locations. Worth a watch.

  • It also has a stunning colour palette!

  • Wasn't that on iPlayer for ages?

  • This is the standout part for me. It's done SO well. The colour drenching in the house is perfect.

  • Holy fuck Whiplash is intense

Watched this last night. Spot on about intense. Enjoyed it, almost feels voyeuristic watching someones pain. JK Simmons is amazing. There is a 10th anniversary, that may be showing on the big screen. Don't think I could watch it that closely.

  • Every so often I track down one of those significant films that I missed at the time (e.g. Lone Star, Collateral). I make a point of not looking for reviews before watching. This week it was "Before the Devil knows you're dead".

    Fuck.

Well, I'm not going to forget watching that one, but I need a couple of months of mindless activity to restore emotional balance.

  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was great, hard to imagine having more fun watching a movie or a better conceived sequel.

  • Before The Devil Knows You're Dead is a banger. Philip Seymour Hoffman is unbelievable in it.

  • Emilia Perez is also a musical. Which I only found out when we were 10 min in. Guess it's this year's trend.
