I was also going to suggest renting one to try it out.
When I used a Brompton I preferred it for shorter journeys where you're stopping and starting, lots of traffic lights etc. where speed doesn't really make a difference. I don't really like riding up hills with them.
Ymmv but if I'm riding for a sustained period I just really like having the hand positions drops provided.
All of that is very much a personal take though.
I think a long ride will give you an idea of how you feel about it.
