garage just called, charging system is fine, just the battery (most likely)

Also said my front brake pads are nearing EOL, so another £50 to replace them

Fingers crossed it’s that simple.

I remember with the 125 (and XJ600) being told to do the occasional long run to make sure the battery gets a good charge. At that time all I was doing was long runs so definitely no issues!
