I ride all the way to work when I go into office, about 7 miles

Cheers. If you were riding twice as far, would you still choose the Brompton?

maybe not, I think about 9 miles is the limit .. having said that, door to door its the fastest bike for work, no faffing about locking or office bike storage, maybe its like 10% slower (SPDs can improve this) but you make up that time in less faff.
