  • How far are people riding on their Bromptons on the regular? Yes I know you can tour on one etc but how far do you usually ride one in comfort around London?
I'm starting a new job soon and like the idea of one for lots of reasons. However, I wonder whether my hour commute from Romford to London Bridge is going to turn me off to the idea...

  • I ride all the way to work when I go into office, about 7 miles

  • I did 45 mins from Putney to Liverpool Street (and back) daily which was fine for me. As with any bike saddle, grips and pedals make a big difference to comfort so find something that works for you. I liked SPDs for sure, found them much comfier than the stock pedals.

It was also pan flat along the Thames, not sure if want it too lumpy and that long though

  • Multi modal? A ride, a train and another ride ride is usually quicker and more comfortable than a walk, two trains and another walk, or a long bike commute. Potentially not as cheap as all bike but still healthier and cheaper than all motorised transport.

  • Got my Brompton when my missus got pregnant and didn’t want to do the 15 mile commute to feltham I’d been doing for the previous 5 years. The thought of doing an hour plus commute on no sleep plus late returns and missing out on bathtime wasn’t appealing. So got Brompton for the ride too and from station.
Don’t remember if I ever rode the whole way to feltham on it, but did plenty of journeys to Richmond from Stockwell. It really depends on how hard you want to go, my two speed is for pottering so I’m never really trying to get anywhere super fast, but I’ll happily ride 6-10 miles in one journey on it, could probably do more but the pull of just jumping on a train for most of it, and getting there a bit quicker is usually too strong..
