someone should do a table of £ per MB comparison between paying apple upfront for hardware storage vs paying iCloud
-
• #21528
I think there are some flaws in this comparison but here you go

While we are discussing iCloud!
I have 2TB of iCloud stored files I want to send to an 4TB external disk. My Mac has 256GB HDD.
Why oh why, can I not just copy them across without my computer storage being involved.
It basically caches the files on the 256GB disk, then has a shit fit when it fills up and stops copying.

..so now you want to transfer the 2TB via iCloud instead?
-
• #21531
Sorry my poor explanation, I have 2TB on iCloud, I want to stop paying the higher subscription. So transfer iCloud 2TB of data to 4TB HDD.
Currently copying one .iso at a time.

Cheers. I was wondering whether the 13 Mini was a bit too old to justify the price.
Would hope for it to last 4 or 5 years so not sure what the best reasonably priced model is for that.

I'd wait for the upcoming SE.
I'm still using an elderly 12 Mini, with a busted earpiece which I've not had time to get repaired, meaning I have to call on speakerphone with low volume, holding the thing upside down to my ear...

According to the rumors, the next SE will be based on the iPhone 14 chassis, so it's not a mini anymore. Real pity.
-
• #21535
Yeah, a few years ago I gave up hope of ever seeing a new iPhone that doesn't feel like holding a dinner plate to your head.

I used to be exactly the same, I loved the size of my iPhone 12 mini and thought I'd never want anything bigger. But it took me no time at all to get used to my iPhone 14, almost to the point of wanting something a bit bigger.
iPhone 13 mini: 131.5mm x 64.2mm x 7.65mm - 140g
iPhone 12 mini: 131.5mm x 64.2mm x 7.4mm - 133g
iPhone 14: 146.7mm x 71.5mm x 7.8mm - 172gI'd consider going for something 16 plus sized next time (160.9mm x 77.8mm x 7.80mm - 199g).
(I think the last payment for my current iPhone 14 is next month but I'm in no rush to get a replacement, it works perfectly well and Mrs GB and MiniGB are both happy with their 12 minis.)

The iphone SE first gen was the rim brake steel frame of the phone world.
-
• #21541
It was solid.
And compact. -
• #21542
I miss it. I wish they'd make a small phone with a decent camera. I bet there's a market for it.
-
• #21543
Apparently not, as the SE 1 was a hail mary that got that got too few receivers.

..tl;dr - apparently small phones don't sell 🙂
-
• #21545
If there was a market, Apple wouldn’t have deleted the Mini :(
-
• #21546
Yeah but they put a shit camera in it. I reckon there are people willing to at premium for small with good camera. Like me for example. I don’t want a big heavy phone.

Went from an 8 (same as SE) to a 13 which is bigger but only tiny bit and has more screen estate, don’t want any bigger than this as it will not fit in Jean pockets.
It’s the same with tv sizes have a 40inch and will eventually want to replace it with a 40in.
Anything bigger will not fit in pockets either. -

Sadly, those people number about eleventy three worldwide.

New M4 mini available from my birthday - it's a sign! I dont really need a new one but my kids finish uni in may and I want one on the education discount while I can
-
• #21550
Just checked - the education discount takes the price down to 499 and apple are offering me 185 trade in for a 3 yr old M1 mini. It's a no brainer !
I'll have you know my mum does need a large storage one, as she insists on taking 15 photos of the same fucking thing all the time.
