Well I’ll take this as an opportunity to field any interest in what I’ve made, seeing as how I may end up with quite a few spares.
I’m a sucker for classic Toyotas. My Dad has one with the original TRD badge on the head of the supercharger. I had an incredibly reliable ‘88 V6 Camry for a few years that was a joy to drive. I just love the style of their cars and marketing from that era.
I had the idea to appropriate the TRD badging as ‘BRD’ (Brompton Racing Development) a few weeks ago, so I made the vector art this weekend. I’m really stoked about it but recognize it’s also kind of silly outside of the BWC race context.

BRM Brompton Racing Machines, shamelessly ripped from one of the finest motor teams of the edwardian era or, more related, Brevet Randonneurs Mondiaux

How far are people riding on their Bromptons on the regular? Yes I know you can tour on one etc but how far do you usually ride one in comfort around London?
I'm starting a new job soon and like the idea of one for lots of reasons. However, I wonder whether my hour commute from Romford to London Bridge is going to turn me off to the idea... -

I ride all the way to work when I go into office, about 7 miles
-
• #16189
Cheers. If you were riding twice as far, would you still choose the Brompton?
-
• #16190
maybe not, I think about 9 miles is the limit .. having said that, door to door its the fastest bike for work, no faffing about locking or office bike storage, maybe its like 10% slower (SPDs can improve this) but you make up that time in less faff.

Noted. Thanks Amey

I did 45 mins from Putney to Liverpool Street (and back) daily which was fine for me. As with any bike saddle, grips and pedals make a big difference to comfort so find something that works for you. I liked SPDs for sure, found them much comfier than the stock pedals.
It was also pan flat along the Thames, not sure if want it too lumpy and that long though

great shout on grips, Ergon GA3 legit or copies were the best for me

Multi modal? A ride, a train and another ride ride is usually quicker and more comfortable than a walk, two trains and another walk, or a long bike commute. Potentially not as cheap as all bike but still healthier and cheaper than all motorised transport.

I already ride almost exactly the same route on my very ratty Genenis DayOne. I was just considering whether a Brompton would be up to the task or not (or more accurately, whether I would be up to the task on a Brompton)

Sidenote: I don't kow anyone who drives into central London on the daily aside from my cabbie neighbour.

Hi Quincy,
You can rent Bromptons (ML3) for £5 for 24hrs using Brompton Bike Hire. Or if you’re short like me you could borrow my SL2 (standard seatpost, fits me at 5’7”) for a couple days. I’m in Hornchurch, not done the ride into central but take it on the Elizabeth line regularly.

I was also going to suggest renting one to try it out.
When I used a Brompton I preferred it for shorter journeys where you're stopping and starting, lots of traffic lights etc. where speed doesn't really make a difference. I don't really like riding up hills with them.
Ymmv but if I'm riding for a sustained period I just really like having the hand positions drops provided.
All of that is very much a personal take though.
I think a long ride will give you an idea of how you feel about it.
@pdlouche might as he was doing stickers for awhile there... https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/373804/
