What would you do on this bike?
-
• #4929
Same as any singlespeed really. As much as your legs can handle

Why not run a dropper?
-
• #4931
Why not run gears and a suspension fork. I guess they don't feel the need :-)

There’s something deliciously simple about a rigid, singlespeed, dropper-less bike tbh. Just get on and ride.

It's a fair point. For some reason my brain computes the price of the seatpost and thinks 'but you could get a good dropper for that and still have lots of change".

Love Starling, love this bike. It’s a wonderfully silly idea, just makes sense somehow!
-
• #4936
I guess it could be a weenie build, or maybe belong to an older rider who doesn't like the added hassle of modern tech. Then again, they could have all sorts of other bikes and this just fills in a certain n+1 niche

Are those the ugliest brake levers money can buy? Nice otherwise!
-
• #4938
I think that 44 up the page was built probably 10 or 12 years ago before dropper posts were really a thing!
Still looks rad today though!

Formula R1. Another weight weenie choice, I think :-)

They look marginally better in silver I suppose. Still got a mild H.R. Geiger vibe to them though.

Do ya know what this is?
-
• #4942
I'm afraid I can't remember. You'd have to ask Mr Stridsland, as it might be one of his prototypes

I'll message him and ask

From the owner:
"That's the OMNIUM Big Bad Jumbo. I actually drew it for Omnium back in 2019 when I started there. They were basically just Christmas presents for employees, but we ended up doing a batch of them, most of which went to our US warehouse. I designed it for a 120-130 fork, but had a 160 on there and it was so much fun!"

@BareNecessities & @Josh, Guten Biken in Munich used to have some of those frames.

Sold the GT Peace 9er. Wasn’t riding it. Was a bit big. Was fun for cruising with the dog. Now building a Rockhopper single speed because that might get ridden to the pub.
Which puts me onto - what shall I do with these parts? So then I got onto the fact that my full sus is not exactly a lightweight….so…
Were there any aluminium, single speed frames out there? Not interested in a normal frame that uses a single speed tensioner thingy. Too ugly.
Thoughts on a postcard.

I should add - the wheels I have are qr.

Ah right, I guess the first three then, if you found an older Air 9
For some reason, steel has generally been sold as the singlespeeder's material of choice
Thanks all, have dropped some better photos in my CP thread.
