I remember reading an interview with him; it wasn't going as planned because some eejit had stolen one of his budgies. He was angry. He usually came across as one of those gentle giants, so an angry Geoff Capes must have been something to see.

Capes is still holder of the UK shot put record, despite my best efforts. RIP big man

And according to the Guardian obit, also the World Record for throwing a standard brick. 44.55 metres in 1978, which still stands today. 🤯

Paul Di'Anno died on Oct. 21st. I saw him live around 2008 on a very small venue with I think a band consisting of Finnish musicians. I don't remember any of the songs but I do remember feeling the gig was one of the best I've seen.

Family is away for a few days over half term. I am now spending this time watching old episodes of Superteams on YouTube...

Fleming Park, Eastleigh. Brand new when this was filmed. I swam there and played indoor hockey. It’s been knocked down and rebuilt I think @Acliff may know better.

And unknown young decathlete called Daley Thompson who was the last to be announced, who knew what he was to become.
