Not sure how Liverpool aren't awarded a penalty just now on VAR? It's pretty clearly a foul in the box. The fact that the ball is on the way out is irrelevant.

I'm more confused that the officials don't look at stuff like this and think, "We're going to look like a bunch of absolute twats if we don't give this," then they carry on anyway. What's in it for the VAR officials? Are they worried they'll embarrass the on field ref? Surely that can be explained away by, "The ref was unsighted, and we have the benefit of multiple camera angles, that's why we're here."

If anything Chelsea look like the new Spuds.
12th and 6th in the previous two seasons. 4 managers in one season. Ex-Spuds manager after that.
Currently 6th (again) and in the ... scrolls down ... UEFA Conference League.

Ooh, touchy touchy.

Yeah, Chelsea are very Spursy now. Could be great soon, could completely implode.

Weird seeing a CL table with PL teams ranked 1-2-3
-
• #171761
How does this champions league thing work. Who goes through, how come there's a massive table with 30 odd teams?

How does this champions league thing work. Who goes through
They'll decide that once they see where the big teams end up.

No love lost for Villa, but Im pleased that they are having some great European nights. Beating PSG 4-1 last season was an absolutely brilliant night, one of my best footballing memories and i wasn't even there. Happy the fans are getting some joy.

So 24 out of 36 go through. That all seems pretty pointless.

Ok legacy fan...

Yeah - but the old format group stages were often largely pointless towards the final 2-3 games of each group as it was clear who was going through and teams would rotate etc. At least in this system there is a massive incentive to get into the top 8 (you avoid the two legged play off) so jostling for that should produce some drama towards the latter rounds, plus making it into the top 24. It is also likely that many positions will be decided by goal difference so incentivizing scoring should improve many games. I'm undecided on it so far, but can see some potential advantages.

I know it won’t happen, but can you imagine a simple draw and knockout to the end?
Maybe the plan has always been “give them so much they puke and then give them the clean original format as a retro thing.” -
• #171769
“Yeah I know you wanted real vs Bayern vs Barca vs city every round. But it’s not done you any good has it? See, uefa knows best. Just have a good old ifk Gothenburg vs dinamo tiblisi with the winner playing Liverpool or Hamburg”

mourinho hasn't given up hopes of winning a title with man utd !
lets hope klopp gets 2 more. -

Also the higher you finish (in the top 8 or playoff 16) the lower finishing team you play. So top 1/2 play 15/16, 3/4 play 13/14 etc.
And of course being the CL the more coefficient points and > more cash you get. -

@RonAsheton having said I don't like the pink and black kit. Seeing worn to day I actually like it. Looks good.

I think European football has come a bit too soon for Man Utd. Looking a bit out of their depth at this level.
