I'm racking up Audible credits but not using them. Any good audiobooks around?

I'm in a similar situation, loads of credits but never seem to be able to get into any of the books, the added variable of getting on with the narration seems to half the potential listens. The best I had on Audible was The Nix, Nathan Hill.

I just bought 3 random titles I had in my wishlist and closed the account again.
- Simon Reeve - Step by Step
- Stephen Fry - Mythos
- Dr Richard Freeman - The Line
I only listen to these during ultras so I got through a lot last year but in the off season I just don't use them.
- Simon Reeve - Step by Step

I signed up to audible thinking it was a spotfy for.audiobooks, it's not.
What is? I'll go though a book every 3 days. So need that kinda service.

Spotify itself has some audiobooks if you've not scoped those out. The selection is pretty limited though as far as I can tell.

See what service your library uses, some subscribe to overdrive or similiar and have a large selection.
Otherwise it is audible 24 annual plan, save credits for 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 sales every couple of months
Dodgy £1 credits of ebay and shop long books, I've got some that are 30-50 hours which makes it hard to justify spending a credit on a typical 5 hour book
Depending what genre you like, the sales get repetitive quickly which is frustrating

I really suffer with this. Blurb sounds really good, check how long it is, <9hours.
I'm not using my credit point on that!! -

bumping this. if I don't want to give my money to audible/amazon but I do want an app so I can listen to a range of books on my commute, what options do I have?
-

Tried your library?

Can you not load shit into Audible without paying them? They do have some free stuff but I wonder if it can read stuff you add to your phone.

I use simple ABP free app, works great with my moody stuf.

Finally found a good source of Audiobook torrents that seem to seed pretty rapidly, if anyone is seeking.

Where do people get their audio books?
Do I go straight to audible? Or are there many other options
-
• #42
Yeah please
I gave up and use epubs and a text to speak reader app.

Spotify offer premium accounts 15hours free a month. Library of books is relatively mainstream and not as robust as Audible but still a good option for Spotify paid users.

So audible isn’t the way?
-

If anyone wants to try libro.fm, then we offer it through our shop - you get your first couple free anyway, and then anything you purchase afterwards helps us out! Supposed to offer everything Audible does and more.

Audible are spamming me to try and bring me back. I use them during races but not for a while now. Sign up when stuff is cheap/free then cancel.

I would try your library through the Libby App.

The thing with audible is, it’s one book for £9.99 per month. That doesn’t seem like great value. What if I hate the book, is it a months wait for a different one?
I've recently been reminded of an audiobook I had on CD, probably a decade ago but it may have been older than that, but I cannot for the life of me remember the exact title or who the narrator was. I'm not even sure how I came by it, I suspect it belonged to an ex who left it in my car ( or could it have been her car I listened to it in so many times?)
It was a version of Arabian Nights/ One Thousand and One Arabian Nights/ One Thousand Nights and A Night and I'm almost absolutely certain the narrator was a gentleman of Middle Eastern extraction with quite a regal, eloquent diction.
Anyone have any idea of the exact title or narrator as I'd really love to find it again!
