Super cool for anyone whose into wartime denim.

  • I think I've found my next pair of jeans and it'll be a part of r of Iron Heart 888 21oz, seems like the cut for me. Price is a bit steep but if I keep them as long as I've had my PBJ so far it's worth it.

On the other hand, been somewhat disappointed by the 3Sixteen I purchased, the top button hole stitching completely frayed. Rivet and Hide are kindly taking care of the repair for me as it's not expected but still annoying.

  • I've had the same with a pair of Buzz Rickson shorts I bought. Plenty expensive but buttons keeps falling off. Just re-attached to 4th one

  • I have 888 21oz. Very good quality. Prefer the 634 fit these days personally.

  • What is 21oz like to wear? 14oz is heaviest I've tried.

  • Hard at first, then softens up really nicely. It'll be heavy though so the fabric will fall very differently to regular denim. If I do turnups on mine they turn into straight drainpipes.

  • Is it possible to take jeans in at the waist without having it affect the thighs? Had to size up on a pair to get my legs to fit but they're a bit loose in the belt area.

I was wondering if I could do some kind of spot-shrinking.

  • Your local alterations person should be able to take in waistband and outer side seams.

  • Buzz Rickson denim pants are the same - I put it down to the fact they are trying to be just so authentic they've replicated exactly the cheap materials and workmanship of the austerity wartime models and mass production methods they base their things on.

  • I think buttons coming off is a thing with BR, I have an N1 jacket where every one down the front has fallen off over time. Still love it though, slots right into my driving job.

  • Just had this done on two pairs of jeans, very pleased with the results.

  • How much? I think an inch, maybe two, is fine. Anymore than that though and I think it starts messing with pocket placement etc

  • In freezing weather you can feel the fabric gets stiffer/more rigid and looks wise I have never really seen 'crisp' fade lines as the fabric never really creases to an edge at all, it just kind of arches so you get larger, fewer and less defined fades.

  • An inch is probably enough. They aren't falling down, they just sit a bit low unless cinched in.

@withered_preacher Nice! Do you feel that it's affected the space around the front pocket sort of area much? How much was it?

  • Thanks both for the 21oz info. Might see if I can find some Iron Hearts that fit me.

  • Speaking of which, Full Count just released a frankly ridiculous set of WWII 501 jeans/Type 1 jacket. They did not hold back with the loose thread ha.... I ordered both.

  • I wanted the answer to be "it feels like you have a Harley Davidson in the garage" , [but obviously, are only slapped with half a dozen push bikes when opening it]

  • Not at all actually because they were mislabeled to begin with, as 32s they came with a waist that was more like a 34. I think it was about 30 cad, and I’d highly recommend Giovanni, he’ll set you up right - he’s just over on Academy, about 6300 kms down the road from you.

  • Great, now I just need to buy approx 400 more pairs of jeans to make the maths balance.

  • Those Iron Heart N1 deck jackets look amazing don't they? Bucket list jacket

  • Take that off and replace it with the superior McCoy's. Inside of the McCoy's (above) versus the IH below. The IH sleeves are horrid IMO. 50/50 wool/alpaca versus 80/20 wool/alpaca, too.

  • Also looks nice. I currently have a Universal Works deck jacket but these look far superior. Might need to try it on somewhere and get it second hand mind you they're not cheap!

  • Pike brothers do a decent N1 for a reasonable price. The fit is a bit too authentic for me though https://www.pikebrothers.com/

  • I'm sure they're both 2k jackets, but remind of 1980's charity shop or even neighbour hand-me-downs

  • I really like my Buzz Rickson N1, exempting having to resew all the front buttons. I believe mine is the upgraded (read warmer and heavier) version, from History Preservation. I'm about a 36 chest, the 38 works for me.
