Hello folks. Thought I would smack this on here just in case. My girlfriend had her green cannondale t400 nicked in southwest London about a week ago. Mid 90's Pale green, full mudguards, flat bar, size 52/54, front basket mount. If anyone spots it give me a shout, its a bit of a family heirloom and it would be great if it popped up. Cheers

I chased BTP all week and finally got out of them that they don’t investigate bikes stolen that were locked up for more than 2hrs. Is this right? Seems absolutely wild

I can't remember which section of the Ways and Means Act that is.
(It's bollocks. You get things like that a lot if for whatever reason an officer/officers doesn't/don't want to/can't/aren't allowed (by superiors) to investigate something. Obviously, not all crimes can be investigated and there has to be some triage in prioritising and choosing them, but rigid rules are not credible. Quite often, if for any of the above reasons 'your' crime doesn't make the grade, officers will want to close the case, and then it can be hard to find reasons why they shouldn't. @Constable_Savage can give you a more informed perspective. Bike theft is often a problem because (a) there are just so many, (b) they're really hard to investigate unless, e.g., there's a clear pattern or it's a repeat offender against whom evidence can be gathered, etc., and (c) they're often very hard to bring to conviction in court. It's a long story! Anyway, in a nutshell, it's probably something that someone just made up to get rid of you. Try to find polite and firm ways of not going away.)

In my experience BTP do even less than the royal parks police. They know probably less law than the average police dog and they certainly couldn't investigate themselves out of a wet paper bag. As an response to your memory loss it is Section 2(1) The Ways and Means Act 1847.

Thanks both - it's bonkers. I actually had a relatively good experience with the met when my handlebars/shifters were stripped and ended up on ebay. they claimed they actually brought the seller in for questioning but couldn't go further.
Any tips on how best to not go away? I've logged a complaint, and am trying to be a twitter-hero but haven't used twitter previously so assume a random no-tweet account doesn't get much traction..

I have just had a pair of American Classics Track taken off my Fixie on Saturday evening. I parked my bike in an enclosed apartment complex in Shepherd’s Bush. I believe the theft was premeditated because the thief would have had to have had a pair of Allen keys with them. I have contacted the caretaker to see if there is any video footage but if any of you see a pair up for sale please let me know!

That's awful. Could it have been someone locally who was monitoring it? That's often the case with garage break-ins—not that this will surprise anyone, but people basically work out what's in one and then make their plans, as garages are sitting ducks. I assume you've made a police report? It's not bike theft, it's burglary, which you tend to get some more help with than with the former. I'll certainly keep an eye out. I'll save the pictures and study them, as I'm not very good at remembering bikes.

Cargo bike stolen from out front my flat.
4am, 25th of October. North Peckham.
Double chained. Absolute bastards.
I thought these would be hard to shift given size so if anyone has seen one with the wear and tear that this one does please let me know.
This was supposed to be carting my kid to bursary and helping out my mates with theirs.
Devastated to be honest.

I'll say yeah, but with new bits added on.

Yeah that's the one, this is after it's been sold by the original thief. Interestingly they made it single speed and added a rear brake... Police have been deeply unhelpful despite the glaring evidence...
