I'd say whatever the casing is made of makes a bigger difference. A cotton cased tyre definitely feels more comfortable than a vulcanized ones.
Vittoria or Veloflex Corsas and Specialized Turbo Cottons are both cotton case tyres which are very comfy. They also happen to have a high TPI.
Latex tubes are another way to add more comfort without having a bigger tyre and again add a noticeable difference.

You're pretty limited with what you can do at that size.
You'll get better results and fewer punctures with eeSilk, VCLS, USE etc...

Would you go latex tubes over tubeless? At my weight, and tyre size, I have to run about 80-90psi which to me makes the lower-psi-for-tubeless a bit redundant.
-
• #10655
Definitely. Tubeless sealant is useless at those kind of pressures at sealing up punctures and will just leave a mess.

Could you go down a wheel size?

It's rim brake, so don't think so.

Cantilever or caliper?
-

Caliper - but even if long drops could make it work, I'm 6'3 and its a big old bike, not sure I'd be keen on 650b - I'm beginning to wonder if it's the right bike for me in general so not keen on 'crowbarring' solutions in there.

New wheels and tyres with new brake setup gets more love than a suspension post? You guys are funny.

they have terrible wet grip

I run Challenge Strada Pro in 25c on my mid-80s good weather bike at around 80-85psi. I switched to latex tubes which has added to the comfort (though they do require regular pumping and extra care when fitting). This set up is noticeably more comfortable than with regular tyres and tubes but it's never going to be as forgiving as the 32c on my winter/commuter bike.

I stand corrected

I did like(d) GP4000s so I reckon the GP Urbans are going to be first try. They should come up wider on these wheels compared to my skinnier "ultra" wheelset.

Ok cheers. I was about to pull the trigger on 5000AS as the last three long rides I've had on STR's have all ended up with big nicks/dynaplugs/slowly non-sealing rear tyre needing regular re-inflation.
That said none of the cuts were on the central tread so I'm sceptical the All Season would be much better, on BRR it scores higher at everything than the Mondo....except their guess at puncture protection. I'm guessing it's probably all much of a muchness between them.

Fuck me. Blisters on my thumbs removing the GP5000s 25s from the Rovals. I know I'm out of practice with tyre changes but the rear wheel did NOT want to let go of one of the beads (no they're not the TL version).
GP Urban 35s look like monster truck tyres in comparison.
They look fucking massive but the calipers still only say 34mm wide for F and R.
Compared to WTB Venture 47mm gravel tyre.

I used these when same tyres became welded to Reynolds rims

jeez quit complaining already!

Sorry are you new here? Isn't this what is the internet was made for? I mean, other than porn.
Is it ironic that your comment isn't about tyres, but is a complaint about complaints?
No tyre width data, no talk.
Is there any merit to higher TPI tyres giving a 'plusher' ride? I'm on an old frameset, and don't have the room to go above 25/26c, but, do get rattled about a bit which I'm realising is putting me off riding.
