in our time + 1 (though can storm through mega topics so fast sometimes it's hard to settle into a topic)
velocast (now the eurosport cycling podcast) - 2 scotsmen who hate the uci and have their ears to the ground in terms of race news and gossip in the pro peloton
the bike show on resonance fm - thoughtful, insightful and with a light touch -interesting interviews and bios feature regularly - emphasis on touring.

The In our Tme archives are great. I often listen to it while running. Think I've almost exhausted all of the history ones now. I will definitley go round again though as I'm sure I retain next to nothing of them.
Weirdly at the opposite end of the energy spectrum I also find it incredibly soporiphic after a few drinks and often use it's reassuring low level quasi-academic hum to drown out nocturnal brain spasms. Means I regularly wake up confused with headphones tangled round my neck but for the price of pretty much guaranteed slumber within 10 minutes it's invaluable.

3 am open university programmes from the 70's used to be great after a challenging night out. just a bloke with a beard in front of a beige backdrop droning on about something or other. stops the room spinning but demands very very little. they've retired the old programmes unfortunately.

In Our Time +1,
(41+ minutes is seldom long enough to do each subject justice,
but the quality of the presenters never falters,
and,
even when Melvyn Bragg is well out of his depth on anything outside the liberal arts
he seems to have a genuine enthusiasm and desire to plug his ignorance),
Kermode + Mayos film review, (now has more items than the radio show),
The Infinite Monkey Cage, Robin Ince and Bryaaaaan Cohhhhx talk science)
Dan Carlins HardCore History, (in depth {4 hour podcast anyone?} history),
Peter Days World of Business, broadly uplifting news of people/companies succeeding through better practices, not just financial engineering
SALT Seminars About LongTerm Thinking,
AllABout Symbian to keep my N8 usable -

I do this with a bunch of podcasts, but IOT on topics I'm not interested in is up there.

Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcasts are good. He interviews a different comedian each show. I don't think he's great as a standup but he genuinely seems to get loads of interesting stuff out of his subjects.
The one with Armando Ianucci and graham Linnehan is particularly good.

Hello friends of yester-yester-year,
There are two podcasts I have been listening to lately that you might like (both on earwolf networks):
The first one is called "Shots Fired." It is an exploration of hip hop stuff http://www.earwolf.com/show/shots-fired/
It features Nocando (an LA emcee who co-runs a weekly show called Low End Theory), and Jeff Weiss who is a music writer. I wasn't familar with Nocando before but had read Jeff Weiss before, mostly on Pitchfork. At any rate, their podcast is pretty funny and interesting. I recommend it, especially if you like the raps and/or talking shit generally. If you can't stand nerdish backpackery you might not enjoy it as much.
The other one is "Yo is this Racist?" http://www.earwolf.com/show/yo-is-this-racist/.
It comes from the dude's blog http://yoisthisracist.com/
Basically, people call in asking if things are racist or not and he and a guest do their best to answer whether or not it is. For example a caller might ask if white groups playing an acoustic cover of a hip hop song is racist, and they would rightly conclude that, yes, it is. Or they might break down how, in America, people say "urban" in place of "black" in a failed attempt to not be racist. He records a weeks's worth at a time and releases them each day in 15 minute segments.
