  • Does anyone have a sure-fire way of dealing with creaking BB? I know, I know, but damn. I love my CAAD12, it's so close to being all the (road) bike I'll ever need but I can't live with the BB creaking and cracking like the bike is about to split in half.

I have good ceramic bearings in there now, installed by (good?) mechanics on my lbs, which was quiet for the first 500km but now it's a mess. I don't think I can run sleeves because the hydro cable runs through the BB shell, so what can I do? Is the solution to buy BB tools to service it regularly at home? Is there a solution?

@e54 any tips? Can't imagine you riding those beautiful bikes accompanied by the sound of a medieval ratchet.

  • Had no issues with hydro hose through the BB shell with a thread together wheelsmfg BB in my old caad12 and it was creak proof

  • From my experience of this I’d advise giving the bike a good clean and once over with some grease and a torque wrench- I have blamed by BB30 bearings for a rear skewer, cassette and seatpost clamp so for.

If there’s no other source of noise and it has to be the BB I would recommend replacing the current BB yourself- take your time and put everything together very carefully, and torque everything up according to the instructions. No one will take as much care of your bike as you will, and if you do everything absolutely correctly and it still creaks then it’s time to bond a sleeve in.

  • Cheers

Just yesterday I swapped the BB on my CAAD12 so happy to give you feedback.

With the old BB i did not notice any creaking - only changed the bearings because they were busted

Otherwise i can pretty much vouch what dammit said

Here are some photos just becoz

  • Pull it apart including bearings. Strip it to bare frame, clean with alcohol or brake cleaner. Refit bearings using Loctite 741 or 609. Plenty grease. Never had creak since I used the Loctite.

  • Had this. Tried everything.

Then did up the rear QR verrrrry tightly.

    Now no noise. Might work?
