    How old timey? The early modern (13th century onwards) meaning (cheerful etc.) is perfectly acceptable, although it can come across as wilfully archaic, or as a double entendre. The mid-20th century onwards meaning (homosexual) is widely used and accepted even in the best families, it is after all the G in LGBTQIA-Z. The early 21st century meaning (lame) is deprecated among civilised people.
