  • Which coffee shop will you awkwardly block the pavement outside of first?

  • Whichever one has the blandest decaf. Would only order a small though. At my age, I’ll only need to toilet 5 miles down the road otherwise.

  • Went to take the bike for its new tyres and it wouldn't start this morning.

Turns on, dash lights up, headlights are on, press the start button and all I get is a loud click.
Not even trying to turn over.

Previously I had a blown relay that caused a non-starting issue, but i tried swapping the relays to no avail.

Any tips? Might try bumping later.

edit: googled and might be battery. Old bikes tried to turn over with diminishing returns on a low battery, however this one might need more to even contemplate starting? does that sound feasible?

  • Very possible. May even be a safety feature in ECU if voltage is too low?

  • found a "battery charger and maintainer" in the draw, will hook it up and see if that charges it.

  • Is it a lithium battery? Be careful if it is and that's not a LiPo compatible charger...

  • Thanks, it’s also good for breaking the motorway speed limit in 1st.

  • Oh well done mate!

I've never actually known someone to win one of these competitions and wondered how real they all were but look at that! What a fantastic looking bike!
    Enjoy it!

  • Didn’t you get the catheter pack fitted? Check under the seat for a clear tube.

  • Nah. Opted for the viagra storage pouch on top of the tank. Assumed that the ladies from the retirement village would be throwing themselves at me once they knew the GS had adaptive ride height and a heated seat. I'll just piss myself and hope they don't notice.

  • update: was fully charged after an hour on the doodad, and then started.
sadly i had 3 minutes between meetings so had to turn it off.
will order a new battery as that seems to be the culprit.

Are all batteries equal? its been a while since i bought one

  • Relatively equal imho, unless you go lithium, i just get a reasonable one from Tayna (having measured the old one first) rather than the cheapest available.

  • the choice is down to an AGM from Yuasa (currently have a Yuasa, not sure on what is in it) or a GEL battery from Fulbat.

The AGM is £111 an the GEL is £73 (plus any postage costs)
    Is AGM 50% better?

  • Which has longer warranty.

  • Nearly there, you need to have at least 3 navigation screens open at once and double take mirrors if you want to stay atop the throne!

  • We really need an lfgusss middle aged ride out

    Dibs

  • Nice! Well done

  • Time for a middle aged ride out list?

I also have alu luggage I can fit, but wouldn't dare challenge Soul's "king" title, as I have neither a BMW nor a POLITE vest (I hope to the old gods and the new this was only a joke)
(I do wear a AGV AX-9 peaked lid though...)

  • Imagine the mix of bikes... Definitely up for it.

  • I have visions of big tourers, rapid litres and @pdlouche on his trials bike...

  • I don't think @coppiThat posts on here anymore, but he should be invited as the thread starter. Having done a few trips to France with him, it's never dull...

  • Yes I’ve been lazy posting but I’m back. The trips to france were legendary and among my most memorable holiday/away experiences. Thanks for tagging me @markboy big love to you.
    Also tagging @veLLo

  • The AGM is £111 an the GEL is £73 (plus any postage costs)
    Is AGM 50% better?

Quite possibly not, but having gone cheap on batteries in the past, and having had them die on me at really, really inconvenient times (like on the grid at Donington Park for example, just before a race) I always go for Yuasa these days if I can.

  • Always up for a ride, parenting allowing... Still ride the same old bike!
