  • I got mine for £200 off FB marketplace. Worth about £1000 new so I am made up even if it isn't flush mount...

Fuck me thst is a good deal, ours was about 1400ish (in pounds) but we did get a 5 year warranty on all the white goods through our kitchen guy.

Should have used the savings towards getting it flush mounted...

  • That sounds rad. Ours has a zone link too but if you turn it on with pots already in place it defaults to trying to link them. So annoying.

  • The AEG induction hob I bought had the option of adding the dial controller which I was intending to do.

Buttons work fine the vast majority of the time though, even with damp hands, so I didn't bother. Only annoying thing is when a pan boils over and you can't turn it down as the controls are swimming in water.

The cheap Bosch I had before that was shit and deeply annoying to use.

  • Join the range cooker supremacy.

  • Wish we’d got the one that sensed when things were going to boil over. Would make for induction-hob-nice-kettle nirvana

  • Okay that's super interesting to know thank you! Might save us from having a huge extractor when we come to do the kitchen

  • How does it do that? Is there a Neff one with magnetic knob that does that?

I bought our Neff without magnetic knob for peanuts off FB marketplace, gonna have to start looking for a knobful one with this spooky boil detection now…

  • AEG SenseBoil. Probs others too

  • I got a new-old-stock Miele DA 2578 off EBay for £150, it’s quiet-mark certified, really inoffensive.

We’re running it in recirculating mode with third party (much cheaper) active carbon filters from German eBay, and I fitted a 300mm tall silencer/attenuator that I bought from a hydroponic jazz cabbage shop. Very effective and quiet.

  • You're welcome. That was our main priority as well.
Might be worth looking into test of different models when you have to decide. An independent testing organisation here in Denmark tested various built-in extractor hubs, and some of them had abyssmal performance. Not surprisingly Siemens, Bosch and Bora were top performers.

  • I got a moderately posh Bosch induction hob from someone that bought it new but never fitted it.
I then never fitted it and it's still wrapped up unused.

Drop me a PM if interested

  • This neff does have fry/boil detection apparently, you can set a target temp and the sensor will apparently make sure it stays there.

There's a bewildering amount of stuff in the manual, fuck knows when I'll get round to reading it properly. I just like playing with the knob!

  • Even just setting a timer on a zone was a revelation when moving to induction. Hold temp sounds great. Jam making ahoy.

  • This make me think of whoever it was who used to reoil their ex chemistry lab worktop annually.

All I could think is how the fuck do you have time to do this random task?!

  • If you use mineral oil on a wood top that’s about 5 minutes labour all in…

  • I'm quite nostalgic for the smell of old science labs but I'm not sure I'd want to have a piece in my kitchen with the chemicals that have been spilled on it over the decades.

Maybe that's the incentive you need to maintain your barrier layer properly.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that my new and as-yet-unused Nef induction hob has Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity, and may require firmware upgrades. WTAF.

  • And you can connect to your WiFi extractor fan to it so it all works automatically.

What a time to be alive!

  • Yeah my Miele one has that but I found it wasn't super accurate - good for a simmer though rather than trying to cook things to certain temps

  • If you use mineral oil on a wood top that’s about 5 minutes labour all in…

    Steps:

    1. Clear work surfaces
    2. Clean work surfaces
    3. Find a suitable time when it's OK to run a sander and not use your kitchen with your young family inside who requiring feeding every 4hrs
    4. Sand surface
    5. Wipe with mineral spirit

What are you up to this weekend? I have a few 5min jobs that sound bang up your street.

  • I did all the hard labour on installing the top : )

  • When you finish doing his jobs you can come do mine too.

  • Bespoke cabinetry finally going in
