I might just get a freestanding cooker for ours so I don't end up with a second-rate version of these.
Are they all Neffs? Are they the forum's induction hob of choice?

Lovely, never going to get bored of seeing sexy examples.
Is that an extractor fan built into the hob? What happens when you overflow the pasta water and it goes everywhere?

There's a small drain tank at the bottom of our Siemens one. With a plug you can access from the cabinet below.

Yes that makes sense, I guess if you have a hob on an island you've got to have something like this?
I hate extractor fan hoods in general, always too pissing low so we got a slanty neff one with the hob. It's good but massive and eyewateringly expensive. I would have liked an integrated unit.

Ours is indeed on an island. It is a bit noiser than I had hoped, but the extraction is pretty good - even including spatter and aerosolized particles.

Yes Bora…and ours was installed in 2019 so it’s not a new thing.
Under the induction hole sits a metal basket with a solid plastic bottom and a 2 cm lip that catches the liquid. It’s also recessed in the cavity….needless to say in the past 5 years this exact thing has happened many times.
Ohh and from the cut out we also got given a nice chopping board….i guess we paid for it

Fuck knows what happened to our off cuts!
That's a lovely space.
-

I’m sure if you ask nicely most places would give you the offcuts, or even make them into specific sized things, the cost seems to be in the material and the fitting IME. I asked for a mm specced plank of our worktop to be made into a window sill from the offcut and they were even happy to install it.

Ours is Smeg, cause it came in grey to match the stainless, and has slidey controls that were a must for me. Works fine, but no better than the IKEA one we had in our previous place, controls are actually more annoying.
For anyone choosing induction hobs, I really think it’s all about usability & responsiveness of the controls. They all just heat shit up. If possible I’d try and fiddle with one before buying.

What's the going rate for "sand my worktop and make it look better please"?
-
• #11613
It's really not difficult or expensive to do it yourself....
Rent or buy a random orbital sander and some 180 grit or higher paper. Buy some danish oil. Done.

You guys just aren't trying with your hobs. Undermount or bust....

Yeah, I fucking hate touch screen buttons with no responsiveness, size and usability were the main things for us. The magnetic dial on the neff is a real joy to use, all the benefits of physical buttons with the ease of cleaning a touch screen model.

That does seem like a great idea. Presume you have to select the burner before adjustment though. Direct control for each zone was another must for me, but it might not actually be a big deal in reality.

• #11617
Does yours extract to a filter or outside via the floor?
-
• #11618
Not that I am in a position to do this in anyway, but can you get marble/granite/solid worktop apertures adjusted to fit these flush mount hobs?
-
• #11619
There's a charcoal filter at the extraction point and then it blows down the back of the cabinet and exits below the two cabinets to the right, so it isn't blowing on your feet when you stand in front of it.
Our kitchen is combined with the living room and a total of 65sqm, so moisture is not an issue, but it could be in a smaller space. -
• #11620
I know it's not difficult. I've done it before.
It's more "how do I work this into my day of xyz with the challenges of abc". -
• #11621
Fair enough. I just think you'll probably not find a trade person who'll take time out of more profitable jobs to do that.
Best to bang the job on checkatrade and see what comes back. Would imagine it's not much more than 1/2 a days work depending on kitchen size so £250 max?

seconded for the dial. Will never go back to touch screen controls on a cooker now.
I got mine for £200 off FB marketplace. Worth about £1000 new so I am made up even if it isn't flush mount...

I've been quoted £1k which is instantly making me think: "fuck off"
-
• #11624
That's what it's meant to do. That's 100% a fuck off quote.

Presume you have to select the burner before adjustment though.
Yeah, you just push the dial down in the direction of the zone (like a d pad on a game controller) and it selects the zone. It's very user friendly, I've never had to alter more than one hob/burner at exactly the same time before so not sure what the advantage would be?
It auto detects when you first put a pan on and zones automatically link if your pot extends out into a new zone so everything always gets consistent temp (not sure how common these functions are but this does it very nicely)
Filth! Love it.
