  • I do have power, but It'd be a hassle to have to remember to go back out there to switch a charger off. Thanks. Was looking at a Cube thing for my wife but I think I'll pass

  • Bosch battery management uses its own energy to warm the battery up to optimal temperature which results in much lower range in winter (maybe around 60%)

I have a Bosch ebike I use for nursery run and store it in a garage - it’s fine. Just be aware that you’ll have reduced range and also it may reduce the longevity of the battery slightly.

  • Interesting, it's that on all generations? Think this one is gen 3. What about overcharging/fire risk? Do you just leave it plugged in all night and the BMS takes care of that too?

  • on this, is it advisable to connect the charger to the bike (with battery on the bike) in the shed while in storage?

  • More integration is more hassle to replace stuff, and stuff will eventually fail if stored in a damp shed.

  • On an external batteries cube we just replaced the battery under warranty. Cost for costumer was twenty euro. Did the same on a Mondraker, all integrated, had to pull out the motor and all internal cables, cost was two hundred. Extreme case but you get the idea.

  • Do you have more info on this battery heating? They do produce heat as a byproduct of use, Bosch have never mentioned active temperature control at their courses and I live in Norway so there's lots of ebikes biking in minus degrees here. They even recommend you take in the battery and let it sit at room temperature to warm it up before charging.

As far as I'm aware capacity loss in colder temperatures is a physics/chemistry problem and returns when temperatures rise again.

  • Swytch now available in stores

  • My swytch kit just stopped working, sad face

  • Any opinions on whether the Pure Flux One is a total piece of crap?

To jog your memory, it's the single-speed-belt-drive-999-quid thing Pure chucked out before they quit selling bikes. It's being sold for about 500-600 now in all sorts of places e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335533502012

Vision rear hub motor, allegedly Samsung cells... short range and only one gear but basically perfect for my 14 mile commute in a way that most legit (i.e. mid drive) options are total overkill for. Would benefit from cheap hydros but otherwise it's tempting...

  • Swytch Air batteries half price (but £25 shipping too)

  • any joy sorting that?

  • Spotted this beaut

  • Nope, i just replaced everything but the wheel. Their support told me to do a factory reset on the battery then didn’t respond.

  • New Swytch battery looks decent with more range, a light and USB C charging.

Was tempted to upgrade but unless I'm missing something it is £400 for the whole setup or £300 to upgrade just the battery which is way more than I'd pay for an upgrade.

  • £400 including the wheel?

  • Yes, £399 including wheel, pedal sensor, shipping etc (extra £30 for display which I'd guess most people would want). For delivery in July though

Feels a chunk cheaper than what I paid last year.

  • Yes, good deal, looks a bit crap now though!

  • Yes, these are ok I had one!
Lack of mudguards a bit of a deal breaker for the UK though!

  • I’ll just leave this here for the cheapouts

  • I bought my first electric bike last week. A Buzzbike EZ, bought for peanuts as they're going out of business. I used to work for them so know how flawed these are but it's been ideal so far. I quite often have to lug bits around town for work and also play drums in a couple of bands. It's been great for getting my heavy cymbals and bass drum pedal to work, then practice then home which is about 25 miles. Too much for me to do on a regular bike and public transport is just miserable. It's definitely a useful tool but not particularly interesting.

  • Blimey. Any idea if they were testing them on the spot to see if they were legal? I guess some things (throttles etc) are pretty obvious but I can't see them testing the speed etc there and then.

  • Direct to fuck the police.
