  • All the MAGA hats should be black

  • I thought Trump's speech yesterday was pretty good. And he's back equal with Kamala in the betting odds.

  • Food prices are still high, so is rent.

All nice if the economic does well, but if there is nothing happening in your area, then it still feels the government doesn't really do much for you personally.

  • Food prices are still high, so is rent.

Was thinking this too. Low interest rates increased house prices so rent prices follows. Doesn't matter if more people are employed and they make 10% more than last year if your rent has gone up 25% since then

  • Phil Pajamas bottom right.

    (sorry phil, love you man)

  • Lots of discussion of the Old Right vs New Right

    Alt Recht vs alt-right?

  • I wonder if Trump's team have an earthquake up their sleeves to swing the election at the last minute? Like Comey's earthquake about Clinton's emails in 2016. Not that Comey did it to help Trump, but it was an object lesson in how a surprise event can upend a campaign at the last minute. He might try to hijack the news with fake evidence that Kamala is Mexican or something.

  • Trump looking very "tanned" today. Pulling ahead in the betting.

  • The reports about Trump's rally last night are a break from the normal fash-y stuff; two people fainted in the heat as Secret Service demanded the doors to the building were closed and there was no A/C, so Trump just lost interest in the Q&A part of the rally after the delay and had his Spotify playlist playing whilst he danced a bit on stage for 40 minutes.

  • The scene with his handler asking what he wanted to do was shocking.
Seriously - he looked like he is completely lost. He didn’t seem to know what was going on. He must be having episodes of dementia.

  • But it has no effect on the polls. What a bizarre country. When you think of all the times the Americans have lectured other countries about democracy, free and fair elections, freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. Just look at what the Americans do with all their freedoms - they choose a senile fascist, rapist fraudster.

  • What is the story behind Musk’s support for Trump? It’s so bizarre

  • Elon is big on 2 thigs:
    1) replacement theory and very, very anti-(illegal)immigrant
    2) "freedom of speech" / being able to tell the biggest fucking lies and get away with it.

Trump is the ideal candidate for these things.

  • Ego? It seems most of what he does boils down to his own vanity at the moment. You don't get the mindless hero-worship to the same extent on the other side of the fence.

He can cosplay kingmaker with his ownership and control of the tw@tter algorithms. So he gets his influence/power without any accountability. He can also 'buy' favours with the GOP in a way he can't with the Democrats because they have, and Trump in particular has, a far more transactional MO - e.g. (and this is probably the tip of the iceberg) he gets promised tariffs on Chinese EVs which are set to boost Tesla.

Plus (and I think this is a big reason) their current narrative plays more to his own personal prejudices...

Just my thoughts viewing from the outside, not any definitive reasons. It's probably complete guff.

  • Who knows? Has Putin got to him? Musk is clearly very vulnerable.

The whole thing is just another go at weakening the US.

  • What is the story behind Musk’s support for Trump?

One of his sons became a trans woman. He said his son had been kidnapped by wokeism and is effectively dead. After she transitioned he said he was going hard right because "I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that, and we’re making some progress." The full story is horrific https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/elon-musk-transgender-daughter-vivian-wilson-interview-rcna163665

  • Don't forget destruction of workers' rights.

  • Today is going way better

  • And the promise of deregulation, government contracts and corporate welfare. And regressive tax regimes that benefit the insanely wealthy. And the breakup of the government infrastructure in favour of corporate interests.

  • As some smart people have said, he's been radicalised by his own platform. He now has millions of worshippers who tell him everything he says is right and that he's a genius about everything. Since the kind of people who will do that aren't rational and reasonable themselves, this has exaggerated all his worst personality traits. The kind of powerful people who will indulge him, rather than just accomodate him and try to extract rational engagement from him, aren't the best human beings either.

Rational government is going to get in his way. He now hates it instinctively.

He's only going to get worse.

  • I suspect it will all end in tears (prison) for musk.

  • the list of people who've been imprisoned / sanctioned for helping trump try and break the law is impressive, here's hoping elon gets banged up for some underhand shit he tries while doing trumps bidding
