The fact that most of the other competitors were mostly just linking up previously created features, whereas Bren made his own, shows he had to work harder and was more freeride than anyone else. It's just a bike park now, and that lends itself to tailwhips and back flips, albeit absolutely massive ones.
Very interested to see if anyone turns down an invite next year; I saw one competitor on social media call the whole event out as bullshit in the comments on someone else's post. -

I mean, why bother risking your life for £100k when you could do some (arguably safer) downside tailwhips on perfectly groomed jumps you know are already well tested?

I agree - as an event it needs to decide what it is, the current billing as the premier free ride event that de facto is a (super high consequence) slopestyle event is a bit silly.

competitor
Who was that?

Correction: previous competitor. But still.

Doubt I'll watch next year, Darkfest is basically a better version of it, riders just having fun, and considerably less analysis of what the athletes Whoop/Samsung/DeltaAirlines health score is

Hope it doesn't impact the women's event though, because that fucking ripped and it's about time they had a chance

I just watched Godziek and Semenuk back again, and I can't understand why Semenuk beat Godziek.

Who out of those two is their most "earningest" athlete?
-
• #29011
Don't see why it can't be a bit of everything. Biggest issue is the scoring. Get rid of that, and just give awards. Best run, best trick, spirit of freeride, best save. Make it more fun and less about exactly how many points anyone got. It's impossible to compare lots of it. Think they need a fresh hillside too. That'll mix it up.

Used the SQLabs 411 innerbarends a lot on the mostly-road 600k we did. Had them just next to the grips - could still use shifters and brakes. Would recommend.
For what we did, proper aerobars would've been the best option but I might stick these innerbarends on the Stanton for actually off-road stuff and get some clip-ons for the Surly (or just get the Mason back).

why are you riding road audaxes on rigid MTB???
-
• #29015
Because my Mason is still in Portugal. Also, since my crash my arm isn't great so I'm running 50mm tyres with Redshift stem and Thudbuster seatpost to take some of the jarring away.

600k audax on a surly ogre. I don't know whether to applaud or to get you into a secure facility so you can't hurt yourself again.

How does the goose help ride comfort?
-
• #29021
Not so much with ride comfort but it will perform traffic control functions and recommend food and drink options in cafes.

That's why people pay for Paul brake components.
I guess that is it. What I like about Brendog's stuff is the precision and control.
I'd rather see that than someone ride out of an over rotated 360 on a step down with a 20 foot by 60 foot landing.
