  • Hey sorry bringing this up, can someone explain to me the benefits of flat removable pedals? I have the folding pedal, what’s the benefit of removable?
    Sorry probably being daft

  • For me weight saving, as with most things Brompton’s own pedals are heavier. Smaller platform, look nicer (depending on which ones you get) I was against them originally, have come round to liking them.

  • Weight saving as the P & T line are lighter than their predecessors.

  • I always found the uneven feel with the folding pedal a little annoying. My left foot wanted to be as close to the crank arm as my right.

I tried an MKS left with the normal cheapo right pedal and the bike felt much nicer.

The folding pedal also has a higher stack height if you care deeply about fit

  • Ah ok thanks all, would you mind me asking what pedals you are using?

  • The folding pedal I have is pretty ancient, it came with a really old model, this set up is my current deal….. not very clever maybe

  • Needs a clean

  • I’ve cleaned it …

  • cool as fuck!

edit: price is incredible too. has anyone on here ridden one? look very impressive

  • Is this for a 3-speed hub model? I'm tempted to do the same but I've got 6sp version and don't know what the best option is for LH shifter

  • Agree, that Helix does look very cool.

Seems a shame they didn't make and fold the fork the other way (ie right leg instead of left) so it could cover the rear cassette, etc.. Maybe the derailleur is just too bulky for it to fold that way.

  • I'm sure I've seen people use a dropper post shifter!

  • In this vein has anyone here replaced the post-2017 integrated lever + 2spd shifter with a separate lever and shifter setup? I have blingy levers now and didn't clock the shifter is actually integrated into brake.

I found this https://www.bikegang.co.uk/bikeganghut/Brompton-2-6-speed-left-thumb-shifter-mod-kit-p69118839 but its not that clear whats going on...a suspension lockout button repurposed as a 2spd shifter?

  • Pre-2017 Bromptons have the gear cable the reverse way round with the head inside the derailleur and the cable clamp inside the two speed shift lever. That kit is for a cable clamp to go the derailleur end which means you can use a non-Brompton shifter on those bikes.

You don't need it on post-2017 bikes, as the setup is already conventional.

  • Sorry I am dumb....that means I can use any normal 2 speed indexed shifter if its a post-2017?

  • Yes, absolutely anything. If it pulls more cable than the minimum there are springs that will take up the extra distance, so it's very forgiving.

  • Saw this at a hotel trade show today, very cool.

  • Thanks v much!

  • Back on the commuting life and it is a lot hard work now with additional weight on the bike, rider and less aero too.

At least it is still compact.

  • They do offer an Alfine spec one for £3.7k with shipping, which is quite competitive with the G series. The fold isn't as slick. I'm guessing that in the future a G series lightweight will arrive

  • If those grips in your photo are GE1: They're mounted the wrong way around

  • Does anyone in here have a sticker printer? I have an idea for a cheeky decal I want to put on my Brompton. StickerApp seems like the best online resource, but the minimum buy quantity is excessive.

  • It may not be that fast, but it's a damn comfy bike
