I've consistently worn lace-up boots since 1982 and have a very high instep. The specialist said I wouldn't be able to get my foot in a boot with the orthotics I would need to use. I did have gel heel insert for a while but they seemed to make it worse. Standing with the balls of my feet on the stairs and letting my heels go as low as I could seemed to help. Every step or kerb stone I was by and I was stretching the achilles.

I was battling with it for 18 months+ and then had a month where I averaged about 28k steps a day including several 20+ mile walks and it has been barely noticeable since, I have no explanation but it has really helped

I had once a few years ago, one of the most painful things I ever had. Luckily mine went with just calf stretches.

I have calf/achillies/planter issues which are all connected, the cure was to stand on a slant board (2 mins) four times a day plus weighted calf raises. I'm one of those idiots who does the rehab until the problem goes away and then stops. The problem resurfaces about every six months.

Thanks for this btw, I also caught your initial post in my email! It's interesting to wonder what caused it. There is some manual aspect to my work and hobbies (and I am very much right-handed) but my wrist has certainly not had a hard life.

+1 for slant boards
They sort a lot out -

Speaking like a proper middle aged man now...you know what is needed, but still you don't do it. That's why women are living much longer than men, they seek medical help faster and more often.
What I meant by adding opinion is to seek a specialist opinion, taking time to explore ALL options available. Just my experience.

Uh. That generalisation.... doesn't check out.

You've been mansplained!

That is why public transport is shit.
Think some Tory back in Thatchers Goverment said, Public transport would be great if it wasn't used by the public.
However, last weekend I went Train Leeds, Darlington, Redcar, beach walk to Saltburn. Bus Saltburn, Whitby, Scarborough, train York - Leeds. Great day out, nice routes. Quiet Comfort ear buds are your friend.

The thing with something like that is it might niggle now but presuming you want to carry on with training it'll be unlikely it just niggles forever.
I really do believe in try everything else remedial before you try surgery but sometimes getting in early can be the right answer. I climb a lot and know loads of people with good and bad stories to tell, but a couple of friends have had surgeries recently that have gone really well for them and have slightly changed how I feel about it

On a niggle related note, has anyone ever used the Knees Over Toe guy and his programs? As someone who is having all sorts of lower body problems I’m wondering if it’s worth a go…

why not see a physiotherapist?

Referral through NHS at the moment is an absolute eternity
-
• #3342
fair enough. I haven't used KOT guy, but his stuff looks good and ties in with what I was told to do when I had physio for my loose ACL 20 years ago. Other, more knowledgable people may have other opinions, but I think you might as well give it a go - you've got nothing to lose.
-

Imho you wouldn't want an NHS referral anyway, they're so over stretched that their sole goal is to keep people out of hospital, there's no process as to what will give you the best quality of life. As a contrast when we moved to France I got a physio over here explained to her my situation ( I had a disc herniation and had never damage as a result) and how I moved super carefully and with correct posture when I picked stuff up. The first thing she said to me was that I can't go though life like that and she needed to get me to a place where I didn't worry about that stuff.
All that rambling is basically to say if you can find a private physio, even for a handful sessions they might be able to put you on the right path.
I'd say give KOT a try I use a combination of stuff my physio gave me and stuff I found on YouTube.

Thatcher said that if you used the bus you had failed in life.

• #3345
Thatcher was a cunt.

• #3346
These words deserve to carved in stone ten foot high and made a memorial to rival Stonehenge
-
• #3347
Absolutely true, so long as you leave room on the monument for the current batch. Thatcher was vile, I enjoyed the piss-up and curry the day she died, but she would be considered a dangerous leftie by Truss/Patel/Badenoch/Rees fucking Mogg et al.

Some shit about getting to a certain age and being on the bus.
-
• #3349
But we would be made to pay for it.

TBF I wouldn't mind chipping in.
Probably raise a fair chunk of change if it was crowdfunded.
I cured mine by wearing proper running shoes with support for my arch and heel, haven't had a problem since. I do still get the occasional day where I'm a bit sore but I'm walking a lot more these days.
