Summer addition or Southern Hemisphere

Dragging us back to mincers at the very height of midsummer is a bold play, and one which I salute.

It's happening!

I was in the woods earlier, enjoying some cherry bakewells with my kids. My six year old said to me “Daddy, I think I prefer mince pies to these”.
It’s time.

Is it getting earlier every year? Probably something to do with climate change.

With 15 years of data someone with more time than me could go back and chart the phenology of the first mincer of the season based just off this thread.

Exciting, but it doesn't count until they're in Gregg's.

100% to do with climate change. Haven’t you seen the Christopher Monckton videos trying to rubbish it? Global dimming my arse; seasonally earlier mincers is a thing.

There are 12 days of Christmas, and none of them are in August.

I actually started this during COVID lockdown. All I can remember is that it was pretty similar dates for the few years before that.

Never too early / too much is never enough - i'm hitting sainos at lunchtime
-
• #3067
True, but mincers are for life, not just for christmas.

The scarcity adds to the enjoyment imo. Ruined now. Thanks Capitalism.

Grabbed a box of 4 Sainsbury's shortcrust numbers earlier (£1.75) - good pastry, but the filling was a bit dense & sweet, no fruity tang or booze detected either which was a shame. Will happily finish the box , but would probably seek alternatives next time.

They are clogging up the aisles now.
Not bought any yet though, Stollen and a Panettone to ease my way in. -

Shame I always used to rate the Sainsbury’s bakery ones, but last years weren’t great, guess they’ve changed the recipe for the worse. Shitflation I bet effecting Mince Pies across the board.

2024 was the year I identified a gluten and dairy intolerance, I don’t miss much but the resurgence of this thread has made me a little sad.
Anyone had luck with a no gluten & dairy mincer?

The cheap lidl ones this year are so good. You can keep your St Johns and Pophams and Fortitude Bakehouse. I'll be here in October having 4 lidl basics with double cream for breakfast. 'tis the season

This all feels a little early.
Plus ca change.
I also bought some Asda mincemeat for later in the year. Our homemade stuff is going in porridge/ on a spoon in my mouth now it’s been opened (not by me).
