Shadow of the Vampire is excellent! Manages to be a witty satire of the film industry and a pretty good horror film at the same time. Willem Dafoe is great as the vampire, and it's a shame that performance seems to be less widely known than it deserves.
My son loves history
Well, you can blame me if that channel takes him down some unexpected rabbit holes. I'm there for the guy's dry sense of humour and pop culture references. I didn't expect to find myself watching a video about how Yahweh went from being a minor war/storm god to THE god of three major religions, and I really didn't expect the Natural Born Killers shout out.
How would you like a review of "The Devil Rides Out"
by a specialist (academic, not fruit-loop) in the history of mysticism and the occult? His account
of how the vampire myth escaped from a remote corner of the Caucasus into the wider world is also pretty good. Most of his channel is niche as fuck, but there's also fairly accessible stuff in there on Lovecraft and the history of Gothic horror. And around half a dozen videos on Absinthe, for some reason. Watch his absinthe tasting tips, buy a few bottles, spend the rest of the month out of your tree while watching horror films.
