What would a drivetrain look like if it was designed with the aim of delivering (within reason) more optimal ratios, without making dumb compromises?

Sounds like you've spotted an opportunity for a totally new standard for 2026.

10-pitch! That's how to get closer ratios! :P

Or, maybe just bigger rings and cogs, so top gear is 60x13. More efficient and durable. Perhaps more than half a chance it's on the cards, to drive a future upgrade cycle...
