After getting a rear puncture i noticed theat my 3 speed indicator chain was pretty filthy , thankfully a rear puncture is rare but that also means i can't remember if the indicator chain should be black and oily, where would the oil be coming from?
The hub is a gearbox full of oil. There’s nothing much to stop it leaking past the key into the axle.
(The key is the moving part the indicator chain screws into and locks and unlocks the internal parts to change gear ratios)
