What are you trying to measure? Last mile? Path to some destination that is important to you including peering links along the way?
Any 3rd party speed checker might change the other end so if you want to start to control for variables then spin up iperf3 on a VM somewhere relevant and test to that.

Eeerm I don't know. Just whether I'm getting the theoretical half gig that I pay BT for to the router, whatever that's called. The guy on the phone said the router is getting some number arrive that, I think the TV box needed a factory reset which has been my major gripe (TV buffering, cutting out etc) it's not hard wired yet but in the room next door to the router with only a thin wall and about 5m of air in-between.

What's the forum approved speed checker? As I understand it since ISPs prioritise traffic to certain ones to skew the results. Anyway, would preferably be able to schedule a test every 15 mins for instance and look at the results at the end of the day.
