  • Had a change of heart and going with the £40 jobbers from Decathlon. Not truely waterproof but will probably serve me fine as I'm only doing short rides for the forseable and I can keep them topped up with the 1l bottle of Nikwax I already have. I will be ordering the MT500 jacket though.

  • what ur review on the madison after Scotland glorious Scotland?

  • I'm a big fan of waterproof trousers now. Can't believe I went so long without ever using them.
The specific ones I bought (the older model) had velcro side tightener things which are fucking annoying coz they always snag everything but the trousers kept me warm, if quite sweaty on climbs. I loved being able to peel them off and leave all the mud behind so it's not ending up in the sleeping bags/tent. They also don't look like cycling shorts so you kinda look like every other hiker/biker when you're sat in a pub.

The missus liked hers. They were also a bit sweaty. But sweaty and warm is better than cold any day. She got hers even cheaper off ebay. I think they were basically the chick version of mine.

We had a little string bag thing that came in handy when it warmed up. You could strip the trousers off and carry them and then throw them on again if you got cold or were heading into water crossings.

  • thanks Master!
do you wear any bib or "things that mattress your ass" while riding with them?

  • We both were wearing normal knicks underneath.

They had quite a bit of room so you could wear pretty much anything under them.

  • I have a pair of Swrve softshells, lovely for todays -5

  • Any reccos for waterproof trousers for shorter ladies? My partner's struggling to find anything suitable (she's 5'2")

  • I'm a big fan of waterproof trousers now.

What are you current wearing please and anything you tested in the past 2 years to avoid or buy? Cheers

Edit: on the low end of budgets, ideally.

  • Anyone got/tried the Decathlon Triban waterproof gravel trousers?

Look good and compared to others I like the price

  • Don't buy the cheap Decathlon plastic things - we panic bought a couple of pairs in Slovenia before 7S event and they lasted maybe two days before the arse tore out of them.

We both have Endura models which we got cheap off ebay I think. They work ok. I don't like the velcro adjusters on mine as they catch everything but it's a small issue.

  • ...And we're back.

I'd like to replace my overpriced and disappointing POC ones so I'm in the market. Tried some Vaude, good for the price but I'd rather pay more and get better ones.
@amey recommnded some RAB but as they are not for cycling they're probably no reinforced in the crotch area.
    Good old Endura MT500?

  • Decathlon?

  • What was wrong with pocnones?

You need to try some really, I've had a few mountaineering ones and some work better cycling than others.
There is a benefit in a somewhat cycling cut for rain trousers.
7mesh thunder. Though I don't see need for full zip. Albion zoa would be the alternative. The best I have were some I had custom made to my specs by Rusjan.

He is throwing you off the scent to keep them secret, the bike specific Cinder Kinetic are brilliant, have tested in Scotland and stayed dry in 5-6 hours rain. They are also softer and comfier than should be possible from something so waterproof.

  • They are the city ones they don't make anymore. The fabric feels premium but performance is not great. It's particularly evident since I pair them with a Klattermusen jacket that does the job. The cut is also too tapered (despite me being skinny to start with), so the top of the shoes gets no protection at all. There's barely space to have long johns underneath, it would be the same with cycling tights. My Swrve Softshell trousers actually work better in the rain, they get wet eventually but at least I don't wet out within minutes.
Although not an expert I have a pretty informed and reasonnable expectation when it comes to rain gear, they were just a disappointment.

  • That's interesting. I've got some but not tried them, will try them.

  • Nice (but pricey) one.

  • they are not for cycling they're probably no reinforced in the crotch area.

correct, but their cinder version is .. but then, nice but pricey

  • what this guy said

  • OK, I think the time has arrived for me to join the water proof trouser crew. Spent 20 years cycling around the city with piss wet through jeans and was never that bothered but I'm full Roger Murtaugh these days and cycling in the pissing rain is miserable.

Are these rabs cinder kenetic the ones then? I can find them online over here for about 100 euros (edit - seems it's cinder cranks are 100, kenetic is are nearly 200, they better be good at that price) is that a good price? Also what's the sizing like?

  • I can find them online over here for about 100 euros, is that a good price?

    extremely good price

  • Looking more like 180, cinder crank trousers are the ones for about 100.

  • Paramo adventure trousers?

It's a little eye watering.. ask me after 7 hours of scottish rain and river crossing and they were priceless... obviously there are cheaper ways to stay dry around town on short rides but they are class.

Size wise, I'm 32 in most things and got medium, would like them to feel a shade more fitted but they sit right. Seem true to the size guide.

Also ripped mine slipping over a wet rock, sent them in for repair and got a new pair back as it was awkwardly over a zipper.
