  • Back in the smoke and just seen a buzzard over CP SE19, seem to come and visit every few weeks presumably from the north downs.

  • Doesnt anyone on here looking for lovebirds?

  • Not really sure of the context here but seeing caged birds in this thread makes me sad.

  • I like to think they are employed. Like a Zoo (office).

  • This made me jump, didn’t see it but there is an eye if you look closely, wonder if it’s a hobby/kestrel?

  • did it fly off (relatively) unscathed?

  • Yeah maybe have a look on the ground floor. 😬

  • Well from the brief look I had when i looked up from the bang it definitely flew of downwards. Couldn’t see anything below (6 floors) but didn’t open the windows and look close to the building.
Amazing the eye left an imprint.

  • My vote is pigeon. It's the excuse I offer up to my wife as to why I don't clean the kitchen sliding door because it's happened three times. Then I have to look at the grease smear for weeks until I can be arsed to wipe it.

  • I'm looking to buy a pair of binoculars for birdwatching.

    I gather I need something like 42/10

    Budget £300-£400
    Lightweight
    Any Recommendations?
    Thanks

  • I'm no expert but I bought some Nikon Monarchs a few years ago and am very happy with them.

  • Back on the edge of the marsh for a short pre pub walk and quite a bounty of the usual suspects plus Redwing, kingfisher, dunnock, firecrest along with a decent sized flock of lapwing and as I type this a couple of angry rooks dealing with a large raptor. Didn’t get a good enough look to identify but it was either a harrier or buzzard.
Update: some long legged white thing that’s not a heron and a hawfinch
Edit: and now a stonechat. This is my biggest haul in 20min stop and listen to date.

  • Quiet few months without much intentional birding but local walk has snipe, Stonechat, some winter thrushes, mipipit back for the winter which is nice

  • Saw this today near the velodrome and it made my day.

  • I'm thinking it was a sparrow hawk. I lifted the shadows in this one to see the feather pattern. I went back this morning and it was in the same spot but flew away before I could get my camera out.

  • I'd say that is a peregrine falcon rather than a sparrowhawk. It had moustachial stripes which sparrowhawks don't have.

  • Ah, like the kingfisher muncher on the previous page? I'm sort of hoping it wasn't that as I'd be conflicted then!

  • Yeah, the same. I'm sure a sparrowhawk would take a kingfisher if the opportunity appeared, if that makes any difference? :)

  • Nope, it's definitely a kestrel, peregrines have much shorter tails proportionally to their bodies.
