Amazon Kindle

Thanks all - my partner uses her old iPad at the moment to read, but doesn't like the screen I'm trying to convince her that it it's sensible to just pick up a kindle and use that; but I need to makes sure I fully understand how to use it beforehand as she'll not bother with it if it's too complicated.

Fyi it's 2 days till prime day.

If you buy books from amazon it's effortless. You do it on your kindle or from another device and it downloads to your Kindle (when it's connected to Internet). Or they have a subscription package, that looks like decent value if you read a lot.

If you borrow them from the Internet it's a bit more involved. But if you put a bit of effort into setting up calibre it's not too hard. In case you haven't used calibre it's a bit like an old school iTunes to iPod. You have all your ebook files in a folder, that links to your calibre library, which has a nice layout and filtering options, you then you send your book to your device.

But yeah, I still think having a dedicated e-reader is really nice with a different use case to tablets/phones.

Always find it frustrating that the many books in my kindle wish list are never discounted during prime day! Just randomly throughout the year..

You may be aware but this site will track books or authors and email you when below a certain price. Very useful for non urgent books

Thanks, that website makes my eyes hurt, but looks pretty useful. Wish it had a way of automatically adding a wish list to their watchlist though.
See lots of clicking through to books I want in my future..

Yeah it's not the best site but it has saved me a lot of cash. Sometimes just adding the book to the list is almost as satisfying as actually buying the book. Especially since i have so mnay unread books still

I just watched a video about how Japanese websites differ from US ones in the amount of info displayed on the main and subsequent pages. What was it about that one that bothered you? Was it how busy it was?

To be honest I was looking at it in my phone, so mobile version might not be optimized, but adverts, those ones that appear at the bottom of the page, ones that sit centre page and appear as you scroll down.
Just feels a bit busy, not as busy as any reach website but feels like it’s built along the same lines..

Ah yeah, the ads are another thing entirely.
